Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 9 Whites win their Cup Final after a penalty shoot-out. It was not so fortunate for the gallant FJSC Under 10 Blacks who lost another Cup Final also after penalties.
REPRESESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 9 Whites played Redgate Rovers Yellow in the Craven Minor Trophy Event Cup Final at The Rookery. In the first half FJSC started well and put Redgate under pressure but could not find the finishing touch at the end of good attacking play. Redgate had a few chances of their own but FJSC’s goalkeeper Charles Fazakerley managed to keep them at bay. Redgate began to get on top before half time but FJSC held firm.
The Whites settled down and early in the second half created more chances. Eventually the deadlock was broken when Charlie Ormesher managed to create enough space to slip the ball past the Redgate keeper for the opening goal. With plenty of time to go FJSC needed a second goal and it nearly came but a Charlie Vernon effort was disallowed by the referee. Redgate went on the attack and every FJSC player was behind the ball defending like gladiators. In the last minute of the game Redgate equalised from a free kick from just outside the penalty area. The final whistle was blown and the outcome was to be decided by penalties.
Noah Martin-Gargon, Joshua Gillespie and Charles Fazakerley remained calm and successfully scored their respective penalties and as a result FJSC won the shoot-out 3-2 to win the cup. Every squad member of the FJSC Under 9 Whites squad deserves praise for a wonderful effort against a very good team. Commiserations goes to the Redgate Rovers Yellows team. FJSC Under 10 Blacks lined up against Southport Trinity Blue in the Craven Minor League Wilf Jenkinson Cup Final. Both teams started brightly with a lot of shots at both ends before Southport Trinity opened the scoring. It didn’t take FJSC very long to come back into the match. An excellent free kick was directed into the box by Idris Jones, which landed on the head of Jack Hansen for him to flick it to the feet of Alex Rowley to score and bring the game level at half time.
The second half started exactly how the first closed with a lot of physical battling from both teams but Trinity went ahead again from a free kick. Idris Jones equalised for FJSC with a long range shot. The Blacks had a lot of chances but were unlucky for one of these not to hit the back of the net. The match finished 2-2 and like the Under 9’s Final the match went to penalties.
Unfortunately on this occasion luck was not on the side of the gallant Under 10 Blacks as Southport Trinity scored more penalties. It was a big disappointment for the boys who had played their hearts out but it just wasn’t their day.
Many of the boys had only joined the team at the beginning of the season so reaching the final was an achievement in itself and to so narrowly miss out on winning the trophy shows just how far the Blacks have improved during the year.
FJSC Under 15 Blacks played Hightown Spring League leaders Georges. FJSC had the better of the early exchanges but squandered chance after chance. Georges caught the Blacks on the break and took the lead midway through the first half. Georges added a second goal early in the second half before Archie Ogden replied late on. Georges held on and won 2-1 in a very exciting match. Daniel Hill and Dylan Madeley shared the Man of the Match award for their excellent defending.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks started the first twenty minutes against Town Green well and soon took the lead via a well worked goal taken by Isaac Jones to give FJSC a 1-0 lead. Soon afterwards FJSC won a corner and a well taken header by Sylvan O’Hara put FJSC 2 nil ahead and looked in control. Unfortunately the team took the foot of the pedal and were lucky to go in at half time 2-0 up.
The second half continued with FJSC under pressure and soon the pressure told with a penalty given away which Town Green dispatched to make the score 2-1. Town Green pushed forward and eventually the pressure told again and Town Green equalised to make it 2-2. FJSC did have their chances to win the game but couldn’t find the finishing touch. The result keeps the Blacks in top place in the very closely contested Hightown Spring League by two points.
FJSC Under 11 Reds had a tough game against a very good 11 Soccer Bayern. The boys started well but conceded early in the game from a corner. They regrouped and fought for an equaliser with Mason Todd and Tommy Collins playing really well in unfamiliar wingback roles. The boys were unfortunate to concede a second goal when the referee failed to notice an offside leaving the striker 1 on 1 with keeper Brett McKeown who tried to get a hand to the shot but was unable to. The second half saw the boys come out fighting and they charged into every tackle and ran themselves ragged to create opportunities for each other.
A solid midfield performance from Campbell Woodcock and Isaac Pepper put pressure on their opponents and the Reds were rewarded for their hard work when Chase Lowen broke through and slotted coolly past the keeper. This gave the boys the incentive to push for another goal with shots from Isaac Pepper, Tommy Collins and Mason Todd going narrowly wide. Unfortunately time ran out but the Reds should be really proud of what they achieved playing a new system against top opponents. Man of the Match awards went to Mason Todd and Tommy Collins for their hard work and determination getting up and down the pitch supporting both defence and attack.
FJSC Gold Under 10’s put in a strong performance against FJSC Reds, showing great energy and control in the first half. The Gold team created several opportunities, but the Reds managed to break through and score late in the first half. In the second half, fatigue began to show, and despite some efforts on goal the Gold team struggled to maintain attacking momentum. The Reds capitalised on this and managed to score two more goals, securing the win. Overall, it was a spirited effort from the Gold team, with plenty of positives to take forward. Well done to all the players for their hard work and determination. The Player of the Match was goalkeeperLewis McColl for making some great saves.
FJSC Under 6 Whites produced another great performance against ESC in an eighteen goal extravaganza. The Whites kicked off with fourgoals in succession with Kayden Dowdall grabbing a hat trick in the process. Toby Woodcock joined the scoring with two goals from midfield. The ESC team then got involved with a flurry of goals. The goal of the match was scored by Leo McGuire with an excellent free kick from within his own half and later Leo slotted home another two goals to complete his hat trick. The team rounded off a great morning with Willliam Laugleybagging his first goal and McEddy Osei Assibey getting a reward for his hard work with a well taken finish as well. The team continued to work hard until the end hitting the post on several occasions. The Whites began to tire having no available substitutes and conceded a couple more goals but the game was already won.
