Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 9 Whites Sunday team has reached the final of the Jim Rourke Cup
Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 9 Whites Sunday team has reached the final of the Jim Rourke Cup. In another weekend when many matches were once again cancelled some teams did manage to play and there were good results for the FJSC Under 9 Saturday team, FJSC Under 9 Blacks and FJSC Under 8 Blacks.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 9 Whites made it through to theJim Rourke Cup Final with a comprehensive victory over Southport FC Yellows. After a nervy opening few minutes FJSC Whites started to make use of the big pitch with some excellent passing and possession football. SebHodgson opened the scoring and very soon more goals followed from all areas of the pitch. Man of the Match Theo White capped a wonderful attacking performance with fourgoals. Also on the scoresheet were Jack Haggart, Henry Williamson, Isaac Higgins and James Smith. FJSC Under 9 Whites will play Southport and Ainsdale Reds in the final later in the season.
In difficult conditions on Saturday, FJSC Under 9 Whites put in an incredible performance to come out 8-0 winners against Holy Rosary a team that they had lost to earlier in the season. Jack Haggart got the team rolling with a trademark rocket from distance. With all the boys putting in top performances there were six different scorers. Isaac Ade and Seb Hodgson scored two goals each and there was also one goal each for Jack Haggart, Henry Williamson, James Smith and Man of the Match Sean O’Melia who had abrilliant performance in both defence and as astriker. After three matches played in the Hightown Junior Shield , the Under 9’s lead the group table with three wins.
FJSC Under 9 Blacks were away to Southport Athletic Red. The first half was end to end with Southport Athletic taking the lead scoring a rebound after a great save from Max Byford. The Blacks were soon on level terms when Jack Hansen scored with a fantastic finish from distance. Jackson Ebo was pulling the strings in centre midfield and had a nice assist for Ashley Jones to score.
There were some excellent playing out from the back by Olly Stinson, Idris Jones, FrankieBohan and Joseph Kerrigan. Noah Underwood scored four goals. The last one was a lovely finish after a fine through ball from Joseph Kerrigan. Ethan Catleugh was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet with a couple of chances and showed some nice touches in the secondhalf. The Man of the Match award was shared by Jack Hansen and Noah Underwood for their overall brilliant displays. See team photograph above.
FJSC U8 Blacks travelled away at Burscough Dynamo Yellow and got off to a flying start with a goal from Alfie Alston in the first minute. Since January FJSC Under 8 Blacks have not lost a match and the confidence within the team has grown considerably. The game was played at a face pace and more goals were scored by Jack Brown and Joseph Woodward. Otto Johnson was yet again brilliant in defence. Eoin Follett continued his good run of form with some brilliant passing from midfield. FJSC took a very healthy lead going into half time and extended this in the second half with more goals from Alfie Alston and Jack Brown. The whole team wasexcellent with their teamwork and some great passing and great defending was on show to help deliver another excellent win.
FJSC Blacks Saturday Under 11’s went into their Hightown Junior League cup game with Silcox in not the greatest form but after a few weeks of training and some friendlies to get use to the new formation the boys put up a brilliant display against the league winners.
With Alex Barr and Louis O’Connor marshalling the defence and Ben Webster sweeping up any lose balls, Silcox were limited to only a handful of chances in the first half. FJSC played some great football with Caden Walker and Alfie Forsyth on the wings and Ellis Coyne marshalling the centre while trying to keep Silcox’s star midfielder under wraps. FJSC had a few one on one chances to break the deadlock but it just didn’t quite happen with Charlie Richardson and IssacJones’s non-stop running probing the Silcoxdefence. Just before half time, Silcox played a ball through the FJSC midfield and a brilliant lob left goalkeeper Oscar Phillips with no chance to make the game 1 nil at half time.
The second half continued much like the first half but after some great link up play between Charlie Richardson and Isaac Jones, Charlie arrowed a shot into the top corner to make it a deserved 1-1 scoreline. Finley Scott, Charlie Burton and Luke Millington came on to try and push the game on but just before the end of the second half a Silcox shot from thirtyyards looped into the far top corner again leaving Oscar Phillips with no chance. FJSC did have some chances to equalise after that, but it was not to be. It was a great effort from the boys. Man of the Match was Ellis Coyne.
FJSC Under 6 Whites had a tough matchagainst a good Formby Community FC team. The match was played on a 7 aside pitch and the extra space made it difficult for the boys to adjust. However it was a very close game. FJSC went 1 nil up, then levelling to 2-2 before a great corner set piece and strike from outside the area gave FCFC the lead which they held on to the final whistle. The boys played brilliantly and there were a few late chances to draw or even to go on to win the game but it was not to be on this occasion.Sonny Clarke was the rock at the back andwas Man of the Match. Noah Ignatowicz and Leo Rogers scored one goal each.
FJSC Under 6 Blacks played Stocky Grey in an end to end sixteen goal thriller. The boys started well and went one up. From then on it was nip and tuck and ended up 9-7 for Stocky Grey. It was a great game and on a different day the scoreline could have been in reverse. There was very little between the two teams who just wanted to score goals with every opportunity.
Thomas Mitchell and Joshua Wright continued their great goalscoring form and powered the team with Ollie Jones having another superb display in midfield and also scoring. MaxHealey, Tayo Popoola, Teddy Marron and Theo Thomas all worked hard for the team. Man of the Match was Cole Jones who showed some great touches and passes as well as also making a great goal saving tackle. The Referee’s Man of the Match was Thomas Mitchell.
