Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 11 Blacks remain undefeated this season

Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 11 Blacks remain undefeated this season after a hard fought draw last weekend.  With Sefton cancelling the use of their pitches due to waterlogged conditions only seven teams managed to play away matches.  There were pleasing results for FJSC Under 10 Reds and FJSC Under 6 Blacks, thrilling encounters for FJSC Under 11 Whites and FJSC Under 6 Whites plus a valiant effort from FJSC Under 12 Whites.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 11 Blacks went into their Craven Minor League match with Churchtown Jaguars still unbeaten in the league and cupcompetition. After a 0-0 draw in a friendly against Jags last Wednesday night both teams came into this game knowing they would have to fight for the win.  The game was moved tothe Marine FC pitch where both teams played some great football and on a nice flat mud free pitch.

FJSC tried a new formation and the team settled into some good patterns of play and one of these plays resulted in a great shot and goal from Isaac Jones to put FJSC 1 nil ahead. With Louis O’Connor and Alex Barr marshalling the defence, Jags chances were limited in the first ten minutes. After some good build up play between Ben Webster and Alfie Forsyth a corner was won by Charlie Richardson. Finley Scott delivered the corner kick right onto the head of Ellis Coyne who scored to double FJSC’s lead. As the first half progressed, Jags started to come more and more into the game and scored just before half time.

The second half was a close contest with both teams playing some great football. Not long before full time after some good wing play by the Jags, slack marking at the back allowed a free header for the Jags to equalise. The game continued at a frantic pace but finally finished 2-2 which was a fair result with excellentperformances from both teams. The most pleasing aspect of the game being FJSC’s grit and determination throughout the match.  Man of the match was

Louis O’Connor for a brilliant defensive performance.

FJSC Under 12 Whites travelled away to play Premier Division league leaders JN Sports Inter.   FJSC ran out narrow losers after putting up a great fight against a team that earlier this season had proven to be far too strong. The Under 12’s made a really disciplined start and looked solid defensively whilst creating a few chances. WilliamMadutlela’s long range shot was saved by the JN keeper before Evan Meehan reacted first to pounce on the rebound and put the joyous Under 12’s ahead. Two goals in two minutes suddenly saw FJSC behind and it stayed that way until half time.

The FJSC boys played with great spirit from the first kick to the last and showed lots of quality all over the pitch too. As a solid second half went on, FJSC gradually started taking a few more risks to try and secure an equaliser. A couple of close chances came andwent as has happened a few times this season and FJSC conceded a late goal on the break to take the result away. It was a fantastic effort from every one of the players to push the league leaders for the whole sixty minutes.

FJSC Under 11 Whites played Southport Hesketh.  it was end to end with the two teamswell matched. FJSC opened the scoring when Gregory Houghton scored his first goal of the season with a fine header from a corner.  Southport Hesketh replied in kind with an equally good headed goal before a great finish from Jack Richards put FJSC ahead again.

It was more end to end action in the second half which included a penalty save from Matthew Crutchley before Southport Heskethscrambled in a deserved equaliser. See team photograph above.

FJSC Reds were away to Southport FC on the neutral ground at Greenbank. It was good day for the Reds who worked hard and played as a real team to win the game. There were plenty of highlights for the Reds including hat-tricks for Tommy Collins, Joel Wright and Campbell Woodcock.  Joel Craven with his first goal of the season, James Hannan and Tom Murphywere also amongst the goals. All the players contributed to a great team performance withgoalkeeper Brett McKeown celebrating a clean sheet and Mason Todd, Isaac Pepper andChase Lowen also impressing.

FJSC Under 8 Whites made the short trip to play Southport and Ainsdale.  The match got off to a quick pace with both teams having  early chances.  S and A managed to gain an early lead from a deflection off a well taken corner. Joshua Gillespie who was the stand in keeper made some amazing saves to keep Sand A at bay. As the team pushed for an equalising goal Ainsdale managed to break away and score twice including another deflected shot. FJSC then reduced the deficit with a goal from yet another defected effort of their own.

At the start of the second half FJSC kept Ainsdale pinned back and Charlie Ormeshermanaged to weave in and out and with a verywell- timed shot scored FJSC’s second goal. The team’s passing was unbelievable as they tried to find the equalising goal but with a couple of the squad being unavailable the Under 8’s began to tire. This allowed S and A to gain control in the latter stages of the match and to extend their lead further.  All the FJSC’s boys produced a great effort and the man of the match award was shared by the whole team.

FJSC Under 6 Blacks started slowly against a good Clay Brow Boca team and went behind 3-1 in the first third. The boys dug deep andwere able to create chances and in the second and third periods scored three times to very narrowly gain their tenth win of the season.

The work in training is starting to show.  This includes winning the ball high up and pressing continuously, giving the opposition no time on the ball and as a result creating lots of chances to score each week. The boys continue to grow as a team whether win, lose or draw! Thomas Mitchell and Joshua Wright scored two goals each.  The Man of the Match awards went to Ollie Jones and Joshua Wright who both never stopped running and set a great example to the rest of the team.

FJSC Under 6 Whites had a thrilling match with Stocky Grey.  The Whites were losing 4-1 and took time to get into their stride but sooncame back to 4-4.  With both teams creating chances the final score saw honours even with a final 6-6 result. There were two hat tricks scored by Noah Ignatowicz and Arthur Higgins.  Anders Carter didn’t stop and covered all the pitch and was voted Man of the Match.
