Formby Junior Sports Club had its best weekend of the season with twelve teams winning their matches

Formby Junior Sports Club had its best weekend of the season with twelve teams winning their matches.  The Under 14’s, 10 Whites, 9 Reds and 8 Blacks continued their impressive sequence of results whilst the two Under 6 teams had a double success. FJSC Under 9 Whites and Under 11 Blacks unfortunately lost their one hundred percent records in the Craven Minor League but can be very proud of their achievements this season.  On the Inter Club front new four year old children attended taster sessions. These are just a few news items on another very busy weekend at FJSC.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 9 Whites Sunday team played Southport and Ainsdale Amateur Reds in the Jim Rourke Trophy Final.  In a tight game FJSC just couldn’t put their chances away with S.and A. Reds defending well and luck just not going FJSC’s way in front of goal. S.and A. started the game the stronger but once the Whites started playing their usualfootball they dominated the game for the most part and went in front with a wonder goal from Theo White. The lead did not last long with S and A quickly drawing level.   With a few minutes to go S.and A. scored the winner with a free kick from distance. FJSC didn’t let their heads drop and once again applied pressure and with the final kick of the game nearly equalised when Isaac Ade sneaked in at the back post only to see his effort hit the wrong side of the post.

It was a great effort by the FJSC Under 9 Whites team.  It was only their first defeat of the season.  See the squad photograph above.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks were in action against Fazakerley Rangers.  FJSC had the better chances but found the Fazakerley goalkeeper on top form.  Eventually after seventeen minutes Alfie Holden gave FJSC the lead after Archie Ogden had intercepted a short pass from the opposition keeper. Fazakerley put FJSC under a lot of pressure and equalisedmidway through the second half.   FJSC were awarded a penalty with a few minutes to go.  Archie Ogden’s spot kick rebounded off the post but Isaac Loxham-Keenan was quick to react and scored.  Goalkeeper Max Hall then made a great save to see FJSC home for a 2-1 win.   Dylan Madeley was Man of the Match for his resolute defending.  The Under 14’s have now won their last five matches.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks had a big midweek win against Southport Triinity Whites with Ethan Donegan, Evan Hughes, Josh Kearney, Charlie Knowles, Ethan Murphy, Ethan Richmond, Abe Rice and Ethan Tucker with his first of the season all on the scoresheet.

On Sunday FJSC Under 13 Blacks continued their winning run with an excellent performance against Crosby Stuart. After a tight opening few minutes, FJSC started to control the game in midfield as they passed the ball around. With confidence. Abe Rice was unlucky with a shot that hit the cross bar and then Ethan Murphy saw his penalty well saved. The breakthrough came from a superb free kick taken from the edge of the area by Ethan Donegan who fired past the keeper to put FJSC ahead.

There were some stand out performances in defence with Ethan Tucker showing his pace and ariel ability, Evan Hughes looking composed when bringing the ball forward to start attacking moves and Charlies Knowles a constant outlet on the right.

The second half saw FJSC create further chances and a second goal came as Ollie Dean won the ball in midfield and found Ethan Murphy with a through ball. Ethan still had a lot to do as he danced his way through the defence and then calmly finished in the bottom corner to make it 2 nil. The third goal was an excellent team goal that was started and finished by Abe Rice, who dropped deep to collect the ball from midfield, passed it out wide to Henry Renton on the left, who put in a deep cross to the far side where Ethan Murphy controlled the ball and crossed into the middle to Abe who had continued his run, and he met the ball with a powerful header to make it 3nil. Josh Kearney came close to adding a fourth.

There were several notable performances, but Man of the Match was awarded to Ollie Dean, whose constant probing in midfield put FJSC on the front foot and helped the team control the game.

FJSC Under 12 Whites had a tough match against the Premier Division’s runners-up JN Sport Atletico. For FJSC it was a familiar story of a good battling performance which was closer than the final score suggests but JN were more clinical and made fewer errors. Formby were 3-0 down at half time but right in the match and had plenty of belief still. The rub of the green went the way of JN, typified by a lovely finish from Will Madutlela from just outside the box which came as the refereeblew the whistle for a foul for FJSC and as a result the goal didn’t count. The team’s commitment and hard work was rewarded by Nick Kostakis who put pressure on JN at the back and slotted home from close range for his first goal of the season. It was also a well-deserved consolation goal for the team. It will be the final match of the season on Wednesday and one more chance to earn a result that boys’ dedication certainly deserves.

FJSC Under 11 White in their final match of the season played Southport Hesketh for the third time. The last game was a 2-2 draw so a close game was predicted. In a closely fought first half both teams had early opportunities to score and were denied by the woodwork before Isaac Jones opened the scoring from a well worked corner. Southport Hesketh came back strong and deservedly equalised from a corner. Formby took the lead just before half time with Isaac Jones finishing calmly after some good midfield play from Jacob Davies.  The second half was close again before Isaac Jones completed his hat trick and taking his tally to nineteen goals for the season.  Man of the Match was Lewis Cregeen who was deputising in goal and made some very good saves.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks Saturday team played against Redgate Rovers.

FJSC started the game well, creating a number of one on one chances which the Redgate Rovers goalkeeper did well to save. After ten minutes Redgate Rovers started to create some chances and from a corner, slack marking at the back allowed a Redgate Rovers player a free header which put them in the lead. FJSC continued with their play and created more opportunities but a good Redgate Rovers attack resulted in a clinical finish to double the lead. FJSC continued to press and a good finish from Finley Scott reduced the deficit to one goal.

Not a lot needed to be said to the team at half time as chances had been created and early in the second half a free kick from Louis O’Connor brought the scores level at 2-2. As FJSC pushed on Redgate won the ball in midfield and a long range effort found the back of the net to give Redgate a 3-2 win.  It was a good performance from FJSC but plenty of lessons to be learnt from the players.

In midweek FJSC Under 11 Blacks Sunday team entered this final Craven Minor Leaguegame of the season in good spirits after their form in the  league. With little time to warm up before the game due to traffic, FJSC started the game slowly and struggled to get any foot hold against a pacy Southport Trinity. Halfway through the first half Trinity won a free kick just inside the FJSC half and a long free kick snuck under Oscar Phillips’ crossbar after he was blindsided by the setting sun directly in his view. However it took a second goal from Trinity which was scored from a corner to kick FJSC into life.

With ten minutes of the first half left some good wing play from Caden Walker, after Alfie Forsyth won the ball back saw Caden crash a shot against the crossbar which Trinity scrambled clear.

The second half kicked off with Finley Scott making an impact on the right wing.  Ellis Coyne and Ben Webster started dominating the centre of midfield. Half way through the half Caden Walker latched onto a loose ball and crashed a shot in to make it 2-1.

With Louis O’Connor and Alex Barr controlling the back Trinity found their chances limited to another free kick which this time hit the crossbar. Endless running from Charlie Richardson and Isaac Jones up front created chances and with several shots just going the wrong side of the post the game finished 2-1 to  Southport Trinity.

This was the final game in the Craven MinorLeague and FJSC’s first loss of the season, but so much could be taken from the second half against a very good Southport Trinity. Man of the Match was Caden Walker.

FJSC Under 10 Blacks played at home against Southport FC.  It was a closely contested match.   Sam Halliwell made some good saves and kept a clean sheet with the help of defenders Rory Rankine and Harley Evans.   Albie Graham and Joseph Kenyon worked tirelessly in midfield.  Jacob Holton provided an assist and the two goals were scored by Oliver Hall-Gleeson and Man of the Match Huey Stevenson.

FJSC Under 10 Reds had a thrilling match with Formby Wanderers.  The Reds had plenty of early chances but couldn’t find the net.  Against the run of play Formby Wanderers took a first half lead.  FJSC Reds started the second half well and soon drew level.  Along range pass from Joel Wright was taken in his stride by Tom Murphy who under pressure coolly slotted home through the oncoming goalkeeper’s legs to level the scoreline.  Just before the final whistle the Reds goalkeeper Brett McKeown made a crucial save.  Man of the Match was Tom Murphy.  It was one of the best team performances of the season.

FJSC Under 9 Whites Saturday team grabbed a late equaliser in an end -to- end game against Muniflex. FJsC started the game on the front foot and went ahead with James Smith’s fine header.  With a few chances for both teams the score remained 1 nil at half time. Muniflex came out strongly for the second half and scored two quick goals to put FJSC on the back foot.  The two teams battledfor every ball and chances were at a premium. FJSC didn’t stop and got on level terms with Sean O’Melia’s smart finish from another Isaac Ade corner. A draw was a fair result and the two teams can be proud of the effort they put in.  It was a very good match.

FJSC Under 9 Blacks produced a strong display against Southport Athletic Reds.  Jack Hansen scored an early goal which was shortly followed by a crisp finish from AshleyJones into the bottom corner.   Jack Hansen then scored two more to complete his hat trick with great finishes following some nice passing moves. Idris Jones was solid in defence and played some nice balls out from the back.  He was rewarded with a goal with an instinctive finish from Olly Stinson’s shot.Man of the match went to Jack Hansen who put in a very good display.

FJSC Under 9 Reds were away at Crosby Stuart Youth. The match started at a high tempo but a high bouncing ball caught FJSC off guard and Crosby Stuart scored.  The Reds were undeterred and after relentless pressure equalised after a great delivery from Isaac Ignatowicz’s corner Kian Turley’s layoff was met by Rafi Omar who drove a tremendous shot into the Crosby net.  Rafi Omar then scored again after another assist from Isaac Ignatowicz to give the Reds a 2-1 lead at half time.

Another Isaac Ignatowicz corner early in the second half was superbly headed home by Owen Edney to extend FJSC’s lead.  A fourth goal soon followed this time from the in formJosh Robinson who drove through the Crosby Stuart defence to score.  The Reds continued to attack and Rafi Omar completed his hat trick from a cross from Josh Robinson.  Crosby Stuart kept going and thoroughly deserved a second goal. FJSC held firm to the final whistle and have now won five matches out of the last six played.  Man of the Match for a stand out performance went to hat trick hero Rafi Omar.

FJSC U8 Black were at home to Redgate Green and the game started off at a fast pace with FJSC playing some very direct attacking football. It didn’t take long for FJSC to open the scoring and they never looked back.  The whole team were brilliant and again their passing to break through the opposition defence was excellent. This was potentially there last game of the season and they saved the best to last.  The goals kept coming and all of the boys were enjoying their football.  The work rate of Eoin Follett, Joseph Woodward and Alfie Madigan was outstanding and were rewarded with a goal each which was well deserved.  Jack Brown had a great performance netting seven times and Alfie Alston added five to his tally for the season.  All of the boys deserved Player of the Match and that’s what happened.

Over the season this team have improved after every game and they have only lost one game since January. It’s been a great season for the boys and their development has been excellent.  It is such a shame that this team is not continuing next season as no one has been found to manage the team. A big thank you to outgoing manager Stephen Brown who unfortunately is unable to continue in the role.

FJSC Under 6 Whites were in action against Marina Orange.  It was goals galore withtwenty goals being scored between the two teams.  The Whites took a big lead in the first third but Marina Orange came back in the middle third to close the gap.  The final third was close with both teams adding to their goal tally.  When finally adding up all the goals FJSC were four goals ahead in the final calculations. Man of the Match Arthur Higgins scored six, Leo Rogers was on target with four goals and both Noah Ignatowicz and Anders Carter also scored one goal apiece. It was Noah Ignatowicz’s fifty-sixth goal of the season.  Archie Parrish and Harry Brown also made important contributions in a very impressive team display.

FJSC Under 6 Blacks played against Clay Brow 5.  The boys played very well after a disappointing game last week.  Thomas Mitchell added to his remarkable number of goals scored and is only three goals away from one hundred for the season. Tayo Popoola scored a hat trick. There were also goals for Teddy Marron, Theo Thomas and a first goal for Dylan Woods.  Man of the Match was Teddy Marron who is gaining in confidence each week.  The Referee’s Player of the Match was Tayo Popoola.
