Formby Junior Sports Club had an excellent cup win for Under 12 Black Team - Franks Report
It was another very enjoyable weekend of football at Formby Junior Sports Club which included an excellent cup win for the FJSC Under 12 Black team. There were also good results for the Under 13 Sunday team, the Under 10’s, 9’s and 8’s. In addition there was another bumper turn out at Saturday’s Inter Club with numbers increasing every week as more and more children come along for the fun coaching sessions and the friendly games which follow. Children wishing to give football a go are encouraged to come along as new members in all Inter Club age groups from four year olds to twelve year olds will be made very welcome.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
The Under 12 Blacks hosted Southport FC on Sunday in the Quarter Final of the Joseph Jackson Cup. The Blacks conceded an early goal from a freekick but responded almost immediately with an equaliser through Abe Rice who collected a pass from Patrick Fleming and ran forward to score. Patrick Fleming then turned goal scorer as he put the Blacks 2-1 ahead with an excellent freekick. Abe Rice quickly scored his second of the game following a right wing cross from Ollie Dean for a 3-1 lead. Southport pulled one back with another free kick, this time from the right, to make it 3-2 with barely ten minutes of the match having been played.
As both teams recovered from what was a pulsating start to the game, the Blacks were awarded another freekick which Ollie Dean hit from long range into the top corner of the goal to make it 4-2. The Blacks played some excellent football in the remainder of the first half and created further chances, first through Josh Kearney as he ran down the right wing and then Henry Renton went close after a mazy run through the middle which was only stopped by a last-ditch tackle. Charlie Knowles showed his pace at the back, as he thwarted a Southport attack with a superb covering tackle and prevented a goal scoring opportunity, but the Blacks were able to add to the score line just before half time as Henry Renton picked out Patrick Fleming on the edge of the penalty box from a corner, and he finished with a low drive to make it 5-2.
Southport kicked off the second half, but FJSCwere on the front foot again as first Henry Cowpland found Tom Donnelly in space on the right wing, and he won a free kick after some quick footwork had beaten the defender. Tom Donnelly took it himself and found Abe Rice in the centre whose header went just over the cross bar. Southport regrouped and briefly threatened a comeback when they first scored from a rebound after Riley Higgs had made an excellent initial save, and then scored another soon after from a corner to make it 5-4.
The Blacks kept their composure however and continued to pressure the Southport defence who struggled to clear their lines and conceded several freekicks, one which Patrick Fleming took and hit just wide of the left post and another from Ollie Dean which went just wide of the right post. A goal came after Evan Hughes won a strong challenge and played the ball forward to Abe Rice, who broke clear of the defence to finish well and complete his hat trick as he made it 6-4. There was still time for one more goal as Patrick Fleming cut in from the left and squared the ball to Abe Rice who produced another cool finish for a 7-4 victory.
The Blacks produced an excellent team performance, and this week the Man of the Match was awarded to Riley Higgs who provided the foundation for the rest of the team with a strong and confident goal keeping display. FJSC Under 12 Blacks will now play Southport Athletic Reds in the semi-final. Seeabove an action photograph from this thrilling match.
FJSC Under 13 played Southport Athletic in the Liverpool County FA Cup on Sunday. FJSC took the lead midway through the first half when Thomas Prior scored with a twenty yard curling shot. Archie Ogden scored the Under 13’s second goal just before half time. Second half goals from Noah Gibson, Charlie Garvey and a second strike from Archie Ogden made sure of a well-earned 5-1 victory with Southport Athletic scoring a late consolation goal.
The FJSC Under 13’s team were also in county cup action the day before when they played a very well organised Kirkby Town team. A goal in each half scored by Kirkby proved to be the difference between the two teams. Man of the match was goalkeeper Charlie Taylor. Freddie Garvey also had a very good match.
FJSC Under 11 White had a full squad for the first time this season. Lessons learnt from the last few weeks were clear to see in what was a very competitive first half. Despite a few chances at either end, no one managed to break the deadlock until Greenloons broke away just before half time to lead 1-0. The Under 11’s were much more solid at the back which gave a base to attack on several occasions.
The second half started equally as competitively. Although Greenloons added a couple more goals, FJSC were right in the match and still creating chances until midway through the second half. A few injuries and tiredness saw the Under 11’s run out of steam and concede several goals in the final tenminutes which made the score look very different to the way the majority of the match had been played. There were more positives than ever and, as experience grows, so will theability to compete across the whole sixty minutes.
FJSC Under 10’s continued their good start to the league campaign with an impressive team display against a newly formed Southport FC team. The FJSC opened the scoring midway through the first half when Nate Daniels scored. This was followed by a quick brace from Isaac Jones. There was plenty of attempts on goal from Oscar Buch Platt who put in another fine performance but it was man of the match Jacob Davies who extended the lead just before half time.
A thunderbolt from Nate Daniels early in the second half increased the lead before JacobDavies and Isaac Jones both added to their tally. The final goal was scored by Gregory Houghton with a fine finish and there wereplenty of efforts from Albie Salters and Rowan Jones, who were both unlucky not to score.
FJSC Under 9 Whites Saturday team had a very closely contested match with Greenloons. Man of the match Joshua Halpin, had a great game in the middle and set up a number of attacks and breakaways for Josh Tallon and Jaiden Crosby. Thomas Crutchley hit the posttwice. Issac Rimmer was strong in defence and Harrison Hughes was confident in goal. The breakthrough eventually came for FJSCwhen Clayton Gilbertson scored with just ninety seconds remaining. On Sunday FJSC Under 9 Whites were in action again this time their opponents were Redgate Yellow. It was an entertaining match with both sides playing some good football. Josh Tallon and Josh Halpin both continued their excellent form setting up a number of chances for Timmy Richards and Diego Funes-Cervera. Clayton Gilbertson also went close before Diego Funes-Cervera battled through and scored before the break. The second half carried on like the first with both sides competing well. Jaiden Crosby and Chris Clarke both had chances but were denied by Redgate’s excellent goalkeeper. In the last ten minutes Redgate had their best spell and began to dominate the game. Thomas Crutchley denied them twice before two excellent Redgate finishes changed the outcome of the match.
FJSC U9 Reds played Churchtown Athletic. Both teams started well which produced a well matched keenly contested affair. James Hannan and Campbell Woodcock each played half a match in goal and gave a good account of themselves with good saves and distribution. Man of the match Mason Toddand Joel Craven provided a solid base at the back. Tommy Collins, Isaac Pepper and Oliver Crouch produced tireless displays in midfield with Zac McHugh leading the line up front which produced a fine long range goal. The game concluded with Churchtown Athletic taking more of the goal scoring opportunities. The scoreline did not reflect the close nature of the game.
FJSC Under 8 White played extremely wellagainst an organised Southport Athletic side. Southport Athletic took the lead but FJSC’sJack Haggart soon scored a couple of quick-fire goals. Man of the match substitute SebHodgson then scored a perfect hat trick scoring with a right foot shot, a left footer and a headed goal. Henry Williamson and Jack Hansen were also on target with one goal eachand Jack Haggart completed the scoring with another goal. Southport Athletic Reds kept trying hard and were rewarded with three goals themselves.
FJSC Under 7 White were in action againstRedgate Rovers Yellow. The newly formed FJSC team continue to show much promise. It was a great match between the two teams and a good result for all with honours even. Jack Brown and Austin Farraday scored for FJSC and there were very good performances from Joshua Gillespie, Harry Hughes, Charlie Vernon and Charlie Ormesher.
INTER CLUB SECTION
I am delighted to be able to report that Inter Club is going very well with new recruits joining all the very enthusiastic groups each Saturday morning. The four year olds and Reception group is particularly going well and it is already very noticeable how much the children have improved their skills in a very short time. A few girls have joined this group recently and we would be delighted if more girls came along as well.
The large number of Year Threes is also extremely encouraging making it possible to form another FJSC Under 8 team soon. The Year Five/Six Section has numbers making it possible to have weekly small-sided friendly competitions or a mini league.
