Frank Rourke's Report from Formby Junior Sports Club

There was double success for the Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 12’s Representative team at the weekend. In the Cup there was a good win for FJSC Under 9 Whites. On the Inter Club front the Year Four/Five Section boys enjoyed a round robin friendly tournament. Also there is more news about the forming of two new FJSC teams at Under 9 and Under 10 age groups.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

On Saturday FJSC Under 12 Blacks played FC Northern Blue in the Hightown Junior League. It was the first time that the boys were wearing their new kit which was very kindly sponsored by Yasin Ulusoy of Flamingos Takeaway, Ainsdale.

It was a very close contest between the two teams in the early stages of the match until the deadlock was broken after twenty-four minutes play when FJSC scored. It was very fitting that the scorer of the first goal in the new kit was Yasin’s son Berat Ulusoy. Now on top FJSC doubled the lead when Luca Massey scored before half time. The score remained 2 nil in the second half. Man of the match was Callum Gray. See the squad photograph above of the boys in their new kit.

On Sunday, in the Craven Minor League the Under 12’s played at home against Southport FC. FJSC took the lead after twenty seconds when Archie Ogden scored. Twenty minutes later Dominic Maxwell scored his team’s second goal and Callum Gray then made it 3 nil before half time. The Under 12’s added six more goals in the second half. Man of the match Harrison McGrath scored with a twenty yard free kick. James Cook scored twice and there was a goal each for Charlie Garvey, Max Hall and Franky Moon from the penalty spot. The 9 nil victory moves the Blacks into joint second position in the Under 12 Premier Division.

FJSC Under 9 Whites played Southport Athletic in the first competitive cup match of the season. FJSC started slowly against Southport Athletic and conceded an early goal when a deflected shot just evaded goalkeeper Matthew Crutchley. A second goal from a lob extended Southport Athletic’s lead. The second half continued in a similar vein with FJSC having the chances and most of the ball. Despite strong resilience from Southport, FJSC pulled it around with a hat trick from Archie Weir and a fine goal from man of the match Oscar Buch-Platt to win the cup tie 4-2. There were some exceptional performances all around, particularly in defence from Noah Lace and Rowan Jones.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks were in action against Redgate Rovers Yellows. Redgate scored three quick goals and took control adding further goals during the match. The Blacks to their credit made a determined effort throughout the game and were rewarded in the second half when Thomas Donnelly scored. Man of the match was Nathaniel Ryan who made some excellent saves after coming on to replace goalkeeper Jack Finley who had to go off due to an injury.

FJSC Under 8 Whites made the short trip to play Redgate. After a close first half the Whites passed the ball well and took their chances. The goal scorers were Thomas Crutchley, Joshua Halpin, Josh Tallon, Diego Funes-Cervera and Mason Stringer. However Clayton Gilbertson saved the best till last. From the half way line, after the ball had been cleared Clayton hit the ball first time which flew into the top corner. it capped off a wonderful team effort.

FJSC Under 8 Reds and FJSC Under 8 Blacks played each other and both teams made a good start for the first quarter of the match. FJSC U8 Blacks took the lead and finished the half strongly leading 3-0 at half time. It was just as competitive game in the second half but a number of counter attack goals sealed the game for FJSC Under 8 Blacks.

Mason Todd performed very well in his first appearance in goal with Zac McHugh taking the man of the match award for FJSC Under 8 Reds for a battling outfield performance. Despite the defeat it was another good performance for FJSC Under 8 Reds and the week on week improvement is clearly evident.

FJSC Under 7 Whites played a very good, well-organised Southport FC team. The game was a lot closer than the final outcome with FJSC hitting the woodwork on a few occasions. The Whites goals came from a Jack Hansen brace, a thunderous free kick from Jack Haggart and a fine finish from Henry Williamson.

FJSC Under 6 team played in a round robin friendly series of matches with ESC and Clay Brow. The team took part in two rounds of games playing each other twice in nine minute games. There were goals galore from all three teams including some great goals from Beau Brodrick and Jacob Givin who both scored with excellent strikes and there was also a goal from Matthew Miles. There were some great performances in goal with good saves from Alfie Hsylop and Oliver Parrish. Throughout the four round robin games Harrison Weir, Archie Phenna, Rory Roberts and Finley Duffin worked tirelessly for the team. All the boys played their part in a great morning of football and are already looking forward to next week’s game A fun morning was had by all.
