Formby junior football club - Frank's report

It was another very enjoyable weekend of football at Formby Junior Sports Club. Nearly all the Representative teams were in action and the Inter Club Section was also very well attended. A number of new boys also came along for the first time and did extremely well, joining in the coaching and enjoying a friendly game as well.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 11’s Saturday team played Forefield Rangers. From the kick off FJSC went onto the attack and soon converted chances into goals. It was a very impressive team display. Max Ryan, Berat Ulusoy and man of the match Callum Gray scored two goals each and Freddie Garvey and Charlie Garvey were also on the score sheet with one goal each.

FJSC Under 10 Whites opened the scoring early on against Southport Hesketh Juniors with a well-taken goal from Harry Nelson. Charlie Jameson doubled the lead for the Whites scoring with a precise free kick and just before half time Max Berrie was also on target for FJSC with a third goal. In the second half Harry Nelson scored three further goals and Luke Patel completing the scoring with another goal. Southport Hesketh played well but found the Whites goalkeeper Adam Jackson in fine form.

It was bright sunny morning in Burscough for the match between FJSC Under 10 Blacks and Burscough Greens. There was a strong start from both teams but FJSC suffered a blow when their striker Lewis Donoghue suffered a leg injury early on and had to withdraw from the game. Both sides had a couple of chances each but James Potts who was making his debut in goal for the Blacks made some excellent saves. Burscough made the breakthrough with a well hit long range effort that went in to the top corner, and then scored a quick second.

The Blacks best move and what would have been a goal of the season contender came early in the second half when Charlie Knowles sprinted down the right wing beating two defenders and then produced a low cross into the centre which was hit first time by Ollie Dean, who saw his strong shot go just inches wide of the post.

The game continued to be end to end with Formby defending and trying to hit Burscough on the counter attack, but despite some more excellent goalkeeping, Burscough’s pressure told and they went onto to score two more goals. Man of the match was Charlie Knowles for his tireless display.

The match between FJSC Under 7 Whites and Southport Trinity proved to be very exciting from start to finish. The Whites went into an early lead with a goal from Diego Funes-Cervera. The goal came from some great pressing and running by Josh Tallon and Thomas Crutchley. Trinity then had to sustain a spell of pressure, but some great goalkeeping from Joshua Halpin ensured they only scored one goal and the sides went in at the break level.

In the second half the Whites stepped up a gear. Joshua Halpin along with Jaiden Crosby and Clayton Gilbertson in defence created the platform for many attacks. As a result Diego Funes-Cervera added four more goals to his tally and Mason Stringer also got his name on the scoresheet. Thomas Crutchley in goal for FJSC in the second half made some confident saves.

FJSC Under 7 Whites also took part in a tournament at the weekend. The boys reached the semi-final but like the previous competition last week lost to the eventual winners. In the group stage the team gained two wins and a draw including a 3-2 win over a strong River Rio side. It was another very good effort.

FJSC Under 7 Blacks entertained Southport Athletic Whites. Man of the match Noah Walker-Hall played well in a number of positions during the game. Harrison Hughes in goal and Ryan Lamb in defence were also in good form and Will Roberts worked hard in midfield. In an excellent team performance Joseph Kenyon, Noah Walker-Hall and Oliver Hall-Gleeson were all scorers for the Blacks.

FJSC Under 16 Blacks lost 7-3 away at Rufford and Holmeswood. The highlight of the match was when Jamie Duggan scored with a great shot from outside the box. It was his first goal for FJSC. Also scoring one goal each were Lucas Gornall and Sam Cousens.

FJSC Under 15 Whites played their local derby match against a very strong Redgate Rovers team. In the 6-2 defeat Steven Mordaunt and Jack Rummens scored. Central defenders Samuel Colbourne and Callum Williams produced very good displays for the Whites.

INTER CLUB SECTION

It was another very successful Saturday Inter Club morning. Even after just two sessions since the restart the improvement in skill by all the boys is very noticeable for all to see.

Amongst the scorers in the friendly matches were – Jacob Givin, Daniel Johnson, Jack Haggart, Walter Ramsdale, Sebastian Hodgson, Joseph Kenyon, Rory Rankine, Jack Williams, Campbell Woodcock, Ryan Lamb, Abe Rice and James Lockhart.

New boys in all Inter Club year groups wishing to come along next Saturday will be most welcome and present members are encouraged to invite friends along. Parents wishing more information and would like to book a place can email Frank Rourke at stellathecat4@gmail.com or can read more about FJSC by clicking on the club website – formbyjuniorsportsclub.co.uk

NEW TEAMS IN PREPARATION FOR NEXT SEASON

The following plans are in addition to the Representative teams FJSC already has playing this season.

Provided there is sufficient interest two new teams will be formed from the present Year One Inter Club group.

We also hope to have an extra team for the present Year Two’s and another team for those boys who are in Year Three now.

If sufficient numbers increase in the Year Four age group FJSC would like to have a team for this age group as well.

In the next three weeks parents are asked to inform Frank Rourke by email stellathecat4@gmail.com if their son would be interested to play for one of the proposed new teams. If all goes well the aim would be to arrange a few friendly matches before the end of this season which is at the end of June and to enter the teams into the Craven Minor League for next season. These new FJSC Representative teams would play on Sunday mornings home and away next season and the boys would also be able to continue their Inter Club football on Saturdays.

To run these extra teams will require volunteers to be managers. Parents who are interested in being involved in this way are also asked to let Frank know. FJSC would finance the short courses that would be required to be undertaken and would also pay for the necessary DBS check.

Boys who are not presently with another club would be considered for these teams provided that they join FJSC and regularly attend Inter Club on Saturdays this season.
