Three decades. Thousands of weddings. Countless celebrations. Generations of golfers. And memories that have lasted a lifetime.
This August, Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and the team is inviting the community to help tell the story of one of Formby’s most recognisable landmarks.
Since opening its 18 hole championship golf course in August 1996, Formby Hall has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors through its doors. For many local people, it has been the setting for some of life’s biggest moments, from wedding receptions and milestone birthdays to Christmas parties, charity events, spa days, business celebrations and unforgettable rounds of golf.
Now, the resort is asking members, former guests, local residents and families across Formby, Southport, Liverpool and beyond to dig out those old photographs, home videos and treasured memories that capture the last 30 years.

Perhaps you celebrated your wedding there, attended a glamorous Christmas party, watched someone tee off on the first hole, enjoyed a relaxing spa break, or simply have a favourite photograph from years gone by. Every memory tells a small part of Formby Hall’s story.
The anniversary celebrations will continue throughout August, culminating in a special 90s themed birthday brunch on Saturday 29 August, where guests will be transported back to 1996 with nostalgic food, classic cocktails, live entertainment and all the biggest hits from the decade.

As part of its own trip down memory lane, Formby Hall has already uncovered some remarkable moments from its archives, including the Premier League Trophy’s visit ahead of the 2017 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, along with footage of famous golfers who have played the course over the years.
David Goscombe, Golf Director at Formby Hall, said:
“This anniversary is all about looking back at the Resort’s history and the people who have been part of it. We know there are so many stories, photographs and memories held by our golf members, guests and local families, and we would love to see them. This feels like the perfect opportunity to celebrate not just Formby Hall, but the community that has helped make it what it is today.”
We’d love to hear from our readers too…
