A-List Comedy Superstar Michael McIntyre Drops into Formby’s Much-Loved ‘Hidden Gem’ – And Leaves a Remarkable £2,000 Surprise
Formby had an unexpected celebrity moment this weekend when none other than Michael McIntyre – one of the biggest names in British comedy and star of Michael McIntyre’s Big Show and The Wheel – paid a visit to Emily’s, the stylish botanical restaurant on Brows Lane that has become a favourite spot for famous faces.
The comedy icon was filmed on Emily’s official TikTok, cheerfully announcing:
“Hi, it’s Michael McIntyre… come with me to this not-so-hidden gem. I come here every day for the chorizo eggs!”
The team at Emily’s were absolutely thrilled, describing the last fortnight as “incredibly exciting” and hinting that something big is on the horizon. But for now, they simply wanted to thank Michael – not only for stopping by, but for his extraordinary generosity.
During his visit, Michael left a £2,000 donation in the venue’s charity Wishing Well, supporting Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. A gesture that left the Emily’s team—and the whole community—deeply touched.
They said: “A huge thank you to Michael McIntyre and his lovely team for visiting us and for the amazingly generous donation. See you next time for more Chorizo Eggs, Michael!”
This isn’t the first time Emily’s has welcomed a star. Just a few months ago in April 2025, actor James Nelson-Joyce, who plays Michael Kavanagh in the hit BBC series This City Is Ours, was spotted “laying low” in the same cosy hideaway, much to the excitement of staff and customers alike.

Emily’s continues to attract attention from across Merseyside thanks to its lush, botanical décor and warm, contemporary atmosphere. Its sister venue, Penelope’s in Southport, offers the same unique vibe with Mediterranean blue interiors, porcelain details, an open-fire grill, pizza oven and a stunning outdoor seating area for sunnier days.
But this weekend, it was all about Michael McIntyre – a global comedy superstar enjoying the best of Formby… and showing incredible kindness while he was here.
A proud moment for Emily’s and a lovely bit of sparkle for Formby.
