Beach access disruption at Lifeboat Road as essential repairs begin

Visitors planning a trip to Formby beach are being advised of temporary access changes, as the boardwalk at Lifeboat Road will be closed on Wednesday 22 April and may also remain closed on Thursday 23 April while essential repair work is carried out.
The work will focus on the main switchback section leading onto the beach. This is the only accessible route to the beach at this location, and the timing has been carefully planned for a quieter midweek period to help reduce disruption as much as possible.
During the closure, visitors are asked to check the large maps in the car park before setting off and to follow diversion signs from Bay 2 along Kirklake Path to reach the beach. However, this alternative route passes through sand dunes and includes uneven ground, meaning it may not be suitable for everyone.
For those needing easier access to the same stretch of coastline, Ainsdale beach is being recommended as an alternative, where the Sefton Council car park is located directly on the beach.
An apology has been issued for any inconvenience caused, with thanks to visitors for their patience while these important repairs are completed. Updates will be shared as soon as the boardwalk is safe to reopen, which is hoped to be in time for next weekend.
