Back to a full programme of football for Formby Junior Sports Club last weekend - Franks Report
It was back to a full programme of football for Formby Junior Sports Club last weekend. The Inter Club Section welcomed some more new members on Saturday morning and all the sessions went well. The Representative teams had mixed result. The two FJSC Under 13 teams both won again but the Under 12’s lost for the first time this season. FJSC Under 10 Whites marched into the Under 10 Shield semi-final with an impressive win whilst the Under 11’s and the Under 9’s Whites went out of the cup competitions after valiant efforts.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 10 Whites travelled to Southport to play Southport Hesketh in the Craven Minor League Under 10 Shield. FJSC started the stronger team but some fine goalkeeping from the Hesketh keeper kept the game at 0-0. Oscar Buch Platt came off the bench to assist with a fine corner for Archie Weir to head home, before Oscar Buch Platt added two quick goals to give FJSC a comfortable lead. Isaac Jones added to the score just before half time.
There was some excellent football in the second half and some really good team passing and goals. There were further goals from Nate Daniels and Rowan Jones. ArchieWeir, Isaac Jones and Oscar Buch Platt also alladded to their tally. Despite FJSC being on the attack for most of the game, man of the match went to both Noah Lace and Reece Bagley who were solid in defence when called uponand gave the team good shape. FJSC Under 10 Whites will now play Churchtown Jaguar Reds in the semi-final.
FJSC Under 13’s played JN Sports Academy in the Hightown Junior League on a very wet and slippy pitch. The two teams were very evenly matches. After eighteen minutes FJSC were awarded a penalty which was expertly dispatched by Berat Ulusoy. The match continued to be closely contested until a Max Ryan second half goal made it 2 nil for the Under 13’s.
On Sunday FJSC Under 13 Blacks were in action again this time against Southport Athletic Reds in the Craven Minor League. Southport Athletic took an early lead. FJSC were soon on level terms and by half time led 3-1. The second half saw the Under 13’s score eight more goals without reply. Included in the goals were two excellent headers from Charlie Garvey and Freddie Garvey, a first goal of the season for Dominic Maxwell and a thirty yard free kick from Harry McGrath. Also on the score sheet were Noah Gibson and Archie Ogden with two goals apiece andthere was one each for Isaac Loxham-Keenan, Thomas Prior and Charlie Taylor. It was a very good all round team performance. The Under 13’s have now won all five league matches and are second in the Premier Division.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks took on Southport Athletic JFC Reds in a top of the table clash. The Blacks kicked off the match and looked to impose their passing style on the opposition early on but found it difficult against a quick tackling team. Southport took the lead after they broke down the right wing and scored to make it 1 nil. FJSC tried to respond straight away as Abe Rice won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Patrick Fleming stepped up to take it, but his shot went narrowly wide. Patrick then had a shot well saved after collecting a through ball from Ollie Dean, but it was Southport who extended their lead and went 2-0 up. A third goal then followed soon after as Southport scored from a tight angle to make it 3 nil. Just before half time Riley Higgs made an excellent double save to prevent FJSC falling further behind.
The second half saw FJSC come out on the front foot as they created several chances, but it was Southport who got on the score sheet again as they went further ahead. Abe Rice created an opportunity to pull one back as he ran through on goal, but he was thwarted by a last-ditch tackle and a good save. Soon after, Aaron Pickard took a quick throw in and found Patrick Fleming in space, but his first-time shot was well saved. Charlie Knowles, Ollie Dean and Thomas Donnelly combined well down the right wing, only for Charlie to be fouled. Ethan Richmond took the resultant free kick which flew just wind of the near post. As the game drew to a close, Southport won a series of corners, and from one they scored with a towering header at the back post to make it 5 nil.
This was a physically challenging game for FJSC and the score line did not really reflect the match overall. It was a good team performance despite the result and this week, the man of the match was awarded to Abe Rice for his constant running and his goal threat.
FJSC Under 11 were involved in their second cup match of the season. This time against Birkdale United. It was another cracker. The Under 11’s were without a few strong players which meant some players in new positions with lots of success. Failing to clear the ball out from the goal area continues to haunt the team and the Under 11’s were punished twice in the first half with goals that could have been avoided. That said, there were some great saves from Harry Ball and later JoeyMurphy to keep the score down. A few first half chances were missed. The second halfstarted well and FJSC pulled one goal back through a brilliant free kick from Lucas Lewis. It was now an open game and there werechances at both ends before Birkdale addedtwo more goals to make it 4-1. Another great finish from Lucas Lewis with a lofted finish into the far post brought his team back into the match. The Under 11’s were now playing with renewed confidence and in a grandstandfinish were the more likely team to get another goal and really put the pressure on butunfortunately FJSC could not quite manage it. The final score was 4-2 in favour of Birkdale United. It was a great cup game and a fantastic fighting performance from the FJSC boys.
FJSC Under 9 Whites Saturday team had an exciting match with FCN Yellow. On target with a goal each for the Whites were Clayton Gilbertson and Diego Funes- Cervera. Man of the match was Josh Tallon.
The Sunday FJSC Under 9 Whites were involved in a ten-goal cup-tie with Redgate Rovers Green. Despite the efforts of the team and particularly Isaac Rimmer who scored four goals the Whites lost 4-6. Joint players of the match were Josh Halpin and Clayton Gilbertson.
FJSC Under 7 Whites played Southport and Ainsdale Amateurs. The Whites got off to a terrible start conceding six times in the first ten minutes. FJSC rallied and began to play well. There were some missed chances and plenty of FJSC corners in the second half. From one of the corners Jack Brown scored with an inswinger much to the delight of his team. Charlie Vernon was man of the match.
