Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks report

After four weekends of perfect playing conditions the first Saturday of October brought heavy rain, followed by torrential rain as the morning went on. The young members of Formby Junior Sports Club’s Inter Club Section loved it and were definitely not put off by the difficult playing conditions. Coming off the Deansgate Playing Fields covered from head to foot in mud made the day for these very enthusiastic young footballers. To see the grins on the young boys faces as they marched back to the shelter of their mums’ or dads’ cars was priceless. Sunday morning was different. Would games be on or off was the big question? Luckily many of the pitches in the area recovered in time for most matches to be given the go-ahead although the speed of the ball zipping off very wet surfaces and then suddenly stopping in patches of mud added to the excitement of the games. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM FOOTBALL FJSC Under 16 Blacks played Southport Trinity at Smithy Green late in the morning when the rainfall was at its worst. It was a much-improved effort than the previous week and the Under 16’s produced a good performance in a match that could have gone either way. Trinity were 1 nil up for much of the game. FJSC had chances to draw level but could not take them. Two late Trinity goals were scored late on. Joe Nel was man of match. Theo Griggs and Sam Cousens played very well and also the performance of Jack Rummens from the Under 15s was very impressive. FJSC Under 11’s were in action against Greenloons Yellows on Sunday. It was a very close match in the first half with FJSC taking a slender lead with a well -taken penalty from Dominic Maxwell. Shortly after the interval Dominic Maxwell scored again. Callum Gray added a third after his shot went in after a deflection. Greenloons reduced the deficit with a wonderfully headed goal. Shortly from the end of this very exciting encounter between two good teams Freddie Garvey scored FJSC’s fourth goal with a shot from outside the box. FJSC Under 10 Blacks played in wet and windy conditions in Burscough, and Formby got off to a slow start with Burscough pushing them back into their own half from the kick off and scoring an early goal. The Blacks regrouped and quickly got back into the game with Ollie Dean going close to getting the equaliser, before Lewis Donoghue scored a good goal from close range. Bobby Marshall added a second shortly after as Formby continued to push forward playing some excellent football. Sam Uttley and Charlie Knowles kept things tight at the back and the continued pressure from Formby led to a corner, which was taken by Patrick Fleming who scored an excellent goal after swinging the ball in from the left. James Potts and Robert Gorman came on at half time, and Ethan Richmond playing in goal made some excellent saves early on. Burscough briefly threatened a comeback when they scored their second, but FJSC managed the game out well with Ollie Dean making some strong tackles in midfield and driving the team forward at every opportunity, before Lewis Donoghue added his second of the match. It was another good team performance from FJSC Blacks, and man of the match was awarded to Bobby Marshall. FJSC Under 8’s gave great team performance against a good Redgate Blacks team. Harrison Taylor scored twice and Matthew Crutchley was also a scorer. The FJSC boys worked really hard to stay in the game and there was a great midfield display from man of the match Jacob Patterson-Stevenson. FJSC Under 7 Whites started their season with a fantastic team performance against Redgate Greens. The FJSC goals were shared equally with Mason Stringer, Diego Funes-Cerveza, Joshua Halpin, Clayton Gilbertson and Josh Tallon all getting on the scoresheet. A number of the goals were great team goals with the ball being touched by every FJSC player on the pitch before the final goalscoring shot. The team really enjoyed the game and played well for their first league game. Thanks to Redgate for a good game. FJSC Under 7 Blacks played Redgate Blacks. Harrison Hughes and Will Roberts made their debuts. Redgate settled down well and had a comfortable lead at half time despite some good goalkeeping from Finn McDerby. A few tactical positional changes were made and FJSC Blacks adapted immediately and produced a brilliant second half display. Ryan Lamb and Finn McDerby defended strongly and new goalkeeper Harrison Hughes made some excellent saves to deny Redgate any more goals. Noah Walker-Hall on the right wing and striker Rory Rankine came close to scoring a number of times. Will Roberts and Oliver Hall- Gleeson worked hard up front and tracked back to help the defence when necessary. Man of the match for his excellent goalkeeping was Harrison Hughes. The second half team performance by all members of the squad was extremely encouraging. INTER CLUB FOOTBALL All the boys who attended last Saturday’s Inter Club coaching and friendly games are to be congratulated for playing in conditions which deteriorated after the sessions were underway. It was very difficult to keep a record of the scorers for the club website statistics pages in such wet conditions. Score cards in many cases disintegrated and names taken literally disappeared as cards got so wet . However, a few cards were just about readable. The lucky scorers were Jacob Givin, Jack Hansen, Jack Haggart, Sebastian Hodgson, Walter Ramsdale, James Potts, Tom Donnelly, Alan Burness, Bobby Marshall and Shea O’Connor. INTER CLUB ARRANGEMENTS FOR SATURDAY OCTOBER 10TH All sessions are at Deansgate Lane Playing Fields.
