Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks report
Formby Junior Sports Club Representative teams played their first fixtures of the season last weekend with mixed fortunes for the teams. The two Under 10 teams and the Under 11’s produced very good performances. The Under 15’s lost in a very exciting encounter. The Under 7 Blacks played their first ever match in the Craven Minor League and the first half performance by the Under 8’s was encouraging. The Under 16’s and Under 13’s both lost to very strong teams. The FJSC Under 10 Blacks were all excited before their first league match of the season which was played at home against Southport Trinity Whites on a lovely sunny morning. The first half started very positively for FJSC with lots of possession, and Lewis Donoghue went close to scoring on a few occasions only to be thwarted by some good goalkeeping. Formby opened the score with a low shot driven in from the right by Thomas Donnelly, which deflected into Southport’s goal. Bobby Marshall on his debut added a second shortly after from a tight angle on the left, and Lewis Donoghue added a third just before half time. Formby got off to a quick start again in the second half with an early second goal for Lewis Donoghue, and Southport then had a good spell and pushed the Blacks back before scoring a good goal from the edge of the penalty area. A fine and very important save from Ethan Richmond, who was playing his first competitive game in goal was crucial. FJSC Blacks then moved up a gear again and finished the stronger team with two late goals being scored by Oliver Dean following good bursting runs from midfield. It was an excellent team effort and a very enjoyable first game. Man of the match was Lewis Donoghue. FJSC Under 10 Whites played Southport Trinity Blue. It was a very even first half with neither team scoring. The Whites took the lead early in the second half from an unfortunate own goal. The Whites then doubled their lead when Charlie Jameson scored from a free kick. The Whites grew in confidence and Max Berrie playing in his first match for FJSC added a third goal when he was quick to pounce on a loose ball. In an exciting finish to the match Southport Trinity scored two late goals. It was a another very good team performance. FJSC Under 11 Blacks played away at Town Green Rangers. The boys made a great start to the match scoring three times in the first twenty minutes. Town Green replied with two goals before half time. FJSC increased the lead early after the break and added two further goals to their tally with Town Green pulling a goal back in a highly entertaining match. Archie Ogden was man of the match after scoring four goals. Also adding one goal each were Freddie Garvey and Dominic Maxwell. With no substitutes to bring on the Under 11’s showed great resilience particularly in the tiring last few minutes of the match. There were perfect football conditions for FJSC U15’s first game of the season and the first game back since March. It was a very competitive game against Ormskirk Galaxy with chances at both ends of the pitch. Henry Peck scored but the final result was 3-1 in favour of Ormskirk. There was a good performance from Rhys Hack on his Formby debut in goal, some brilliant attacking play from Luke Honour and a man of the match performance from Samuel Colbourne for his excellent display in defence. FJSC Under 7 Blacks made a huge improvement on the friendly match played against Southport Trinity of a few weeks ago. Noah Walker- Hall and Ryan Lamb produced very good defensive performances. Striker Rory Rankine scored two goals with a tireless display and Oliver Hall- Gleeson’s non -stop running was also very impressive. Finn McDerby and Joseph Kenyon went in goal for one half each making some good saves. When out of goal the two boys played well in midfield. The whole team shared the man of the match award for a great effort against a very good Southport Trinity team. FJSC Under 8 were also in action against Southport Trinity. The boys conceded one goal in the first half and played well due to some very good defensive play and excellent goalkeeping from Matthew Crutchley. After half time the Under 8’s ran out of steam a little but kept trying until the end. Trinity added a few more goals. FJSC’s man of the match was Harrison Taylor. FJSC Under 16’s lost 8 nil to Southport Trinity. Down to ten men after twenty minutes it was always going to be difficult for the Under 16’s. At half time it was 1 nil but Trinity made the extra man count in the second half scoring seven more goals. Goalkeeper Jack Allars made a number of brilliant saves and was voted man of the match.
