Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks report 18/11/19

Three Formby Junior Sports Club Boys’ Representative teams played some marvellous football to reach the semi- final stage of their cup competitions. FJSC Under 9 Whites played a very strong Southport FC team in the quarter final of the Jim Rourke Cup. It was a very tense encounter from start to finish. The two sides fought hard in the first half and despite lots of chances it was 0-0 at the break. The second half started in very much the same fashion but FJSC managed to step up a gear and the big chances started coming. With ten minutes left and the possibility of penalties looming Harry Nelson reacted first to a loose ball and his shot found the back of the Southport net to give the Whites the lead. Some brilliant attacking play generated more chances and after a mazy run on the wing by Thomas Szabo, beating three players in the process he played the perfect cross in for Charlie Jameson to seal the tie with the all important second goal. Thomas Szabo was man of the match for some excellent midfield play. FJSC Under 9 Whites semi-final opponents later in the season will be Phoenix. FJSC Under 10 Blacks scored in the first minute of their quarter final Wilf Jenkinson Cup-tie against Hesketh Colts Reds. Further goals followed including some sublime finishes. At the final whistle FJSC had scored nine and the defence had kept a clean sheet. Dominic Maxwell scored four, James Cook added two and there was also one goal each for Luca Massey, Archie Ogden and Charlie Garvey. FJSC will meet S. and B. United in the semi final. FJSC Under 14 Blacks played their second leg Anita Shaw Memorial Cup quarter final away at Phoenix. FJSC went into the match leading 4-2 and knew that they would have to play at their very best to hold on to their lead in the second leg. The FJSC boys excelled and won 4-3 in the thrilling cup-tie to finally win through to the semi-final 8-5 on aggregate. FJSC’s semi-final opposition will be Ormskirk Galaxy. In the league, FJSC Under 17’s travelled to top of the table Burscough Seahorses Under 18’s. It was a very close match between two good footballing sides. FJSC played the better football and went one goal up after thirty minutes through a well-taken penalty by Charlie Cook. Unfortunately FJSC could not hold on to the lead until half time as Burscough scored an equaliser three minutes before the break. In the second half, again FJSC played very well and were really unfortunate to concede a goal in the 84th minute. FJSC had a number of free kicks on the edge of the Burscough box but couldn’t make any count. The Under 17’s played some excellent football and were unlucky not to have at least shared the points. Man of the match was Charlie Cook. FJSC Under 18 Girls lost for the first time this season but are still top of the league. Charlotte Doyle played well in midfield and Charlotte Armstrong was strong in defence. Anna Rutherford and Sophie Dixon put in a lot of work on a heavy pitch, but Langho were quick on the break and had the better of the second half. Sophie Dixon’s tremendous efforts resulted in her scoring four goals, but it wasn’t quite enough as Langho replied with six goals. FJSC Under 15 Blacks drew 2-2 away at Dynamo Rangers. This was a good result particularly as last season the Blacks played Dynamo four times and conceded twenty-eight goals and lost each encounter. This season the much improved Under 15’s have taken four points off Dynamo Rangers in two matches played. It was a frustrating first half as FJSC dominated the play but conceded a goal from a corner to trail 1 nil at the interval.

The second half continued with FJSC having most of the possession. Finally the equaliser came. From a Callum Davidson corner Andy Kimmance managed to force the ball into the Dynamo Rangers net. Now in the ascendency FJSC continued to press. Finally an Andy Kimmance free kick from outside the box hit the Dynamo bar and Rylie Reed was there to nod home the follow up. FJSC held on to their 2-1 lead until the final few seconds when Dynamo scored with the last kick of the game, which was a bitter blow after all, the FJSC boys hard work. Callum Davidson was man of match after another fine display at centre back. Andy Kimmance also played very well in a very good team effort. FJSC Under 12 Blacks produced an excellent first half performance against league leaders Birkdale . The Under 12’s competed well, playing some nice football and created some good chances, which included Oscar Fletcher shooting just wide after a fine move. Finlay Clarke was commanding at the back with Daniel Raw ably assisting him. Goalkeeper Bowie Mavers made some good saves, but couldn’t stop Birkdale taking the lead just before the break. The second half saw Formby tire and as the game became more open. Birkdale played some neat football and scored some good goals. FJSC continued to compete well, Ollie Shaw and Alfie Finney in particular, running tirelessly for the cause. Isaac Bird worked well too as did Dylan Jones, Jude Williams and Joseph Finnegan. It was a slightly disappointing performance given the first half display but overall it was another impressive effort from the boys. FJSC Under 10’s Saturday team had a very hard stamina-sapping match with Northfield. There was little between the two teams. The Under 10’s played some lovely football with Josh Adderley and Luca Massey scoring one goal each. Joint players of the match were Sam Miller and Max Hall. FJSC Under 8 Girls’ Bobcats played FCFC. Scoring the goals for the Bobcats were Bella Massey, Skylar Davies, Sienna Kamel and Gabriella Otty in a good team performance. FJSC Under 7’s were in action against Formby Wanderers and played some very impressive football. The team passed the ball well and there was a marked improvement in the positional play of all members of the squad as a result of hard work in training sessions. George Hayes and Hughie Macleod scored five goals each. Man of the match was Adam Patel who capped a very good performance with his first goal of the season. It was an exceptionally busy weekend for FJSC’s Under 6 teams with four matches being played. FJSC Under 6 ‘s were invited to play against Crosby Stuart on Saturday morning. It was great to be able to play a club that FJSC has been friends with, and has always had a mutual respect of, for over forty years. What was different about this friendly match was it is the youngest age group that these two clubs have ever played each other. The photograph at the start of my report says it all - Football and Friendship. It was a wonderful match, enjoyed by everyone. The teams were very evenly balanced with little between them. For FJSC Mason Stringer scored twice and Jude Massey also scored a fantastic individual goal. Joshua Halpin, Joshua Tallon, Thomas Crutchley, Clayton Gilbertson and Max McAuley all played well. Congratulations to all the boys of the two teams. A return match will be arranged soon. On Sunday FJSC fielded three teams. The first match was against ESC Napoli. It was an excellent performance and guaranteed all players and parents went away happy for the rest of the day. After conceding two early goals, FJSC settled down and didn’t concede for the rest of the game. Clayton Gilbertson covered every blade of turf, and put in an inspired performance, including a hat trick. This was coupled with excellent performances in midfield from Rory Rankine, who also scored three goals and Ted McAuley. The strikers took their chances well with Diego Funes-Cervera also scoring five times and Thomas Crutchley also adding a well deserved goal. Carrying on the good spirit and energy from the first game, the boys followed in almost the exact same way when playing ESC Juventus. After a slow start the boys found their feet. As ever Mason Stringer was on the score sheet scoring five goals this time as well as turning provider. Joshua Halpin with a hat trick and Jude Massey with two strikes were the beneficiaries. Ryan Lamb and Joshua Tallon produced strong displays, as did Max McAuley who was very unlucky not to score. Unfortunately the opposition for the third game failed to attend so thankfully a few FJSC boys stayed from the second game to help out. Finn McDerby scores along with Noah Walker-Hall. Campbell Woodcock and Parker Kehoe had big smiles on their faces and showed huge improvement as the game went on. Oscar Howard played very well in goal, keeping a clean sheet despite plenty of practice. INTER CLUB FOOTBALL All the groups enjoyed the football last Saturday. Scoring goals were – Joseph Kenyon, Jaidan Crosby, Joseph Hollow, Jack Williams, Niall Brennan, Jack Finnegan, Zach Gilbert, Joel Gilbert, Daniel Hagan, George Hansen, Cole Heron, Adam Jackson, Lucas Maddocks, Harry Nelson, Ezra Sutton, Thomas Szabo and Jordan Ventre. NEW MEMBER IN ALL AGE GROUPS ARE MOST WELCOME FJSC SPONSORED PENALTY COMPETITION All parents of Inter Club children should have been given letters and sponsored forms at Inter Club over the last two sessions. FJSC is once again organising this popular fund raiser (last done five years ago) over the next few Saturdays after Inter Club matches. If anyone has not received information, forms will be available next Saturday or you can email Frank Rourke –stellathecat4@gmail.com. It is hoped that as many children as possible will take part in this fun event which is to help raise money for club equipment. Parents are reminded to please bring the sponsored form along with them on the day that their child is taking penalties. Representative teams have also been invited to take part and can have their own Penalty Competitions so if children in the Rep. teams wish to have a go and gather sponsors please tell your team manager you are interested.
