Hollyoaks stars launch rescue cycle challenge for Freshfield animal rescue

The weather may have been chilly, but the welcome at Liverpool One was warm as the stars of Hollyoaks launched our ‘Rescue2Rescue Cycle Challenge 2018’ on Saturday 27th January.

The Cycle Challenge pits teams of 4 people against each other, as they try to achieve the fastest time in a virtual race between Freshfields’ 2 rescue centres in North Wales and Liverpool.

To get things underway, Freshfields took on a Hollyoaks team led by Daisy Wood-Davis, who volunteers at our rescue centre in Liverpool. Daisy brought along some well-known friends from the popular show to help out, much to the delight of Hollyoaks fans!

Daisy’s team completed the 120 miles in a very respectable 2 hours 30 minutes, raising a team total of £462.42. The valiant Freshfields team were pipped at the post, crossing the line with a total of £301.50 in 2 hours 30 minutes and 30 seconds.

John Rullo, Corporate and Regular Giving Fundraising Manager, said:

‘This is the curtain raiser to what we hope will be a great year of healthy competition! We’ve set up the Cycle Challenge League Table, which will be updated on social media as new scores come in. Hollyoaks are the current league leaders, but that can change if you and your mates have got what it takes!

Our 2 rescue centres are connected not just by 120 miles but by 40 years of history, saving the lives of homeless and abused animals. Our local communities are at the heart of everything we do, and we wantthem to enjoy using their pedal-power to raise funds for the animals. We’d love to hear from schools, colleges, gyms, leisure centres andworkplaces everywhere.

It’s a fun challenge suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and the top ofthe leaderboard is yours for the taking! Just get in touch and we’ll giveyou everything you need to get started.
