Go and see the lambs at Sunnyfields
In the month of May, there is nothing nicer than seeing the cute lambs in the fields as you drive past. In our local Sunnyfields nursery (On the road to Hightown off the Formby bypass), they have lots of gorgeous lambs for you to see. The children will love them, call in and have a look!
Owner of Sunnyfields, Andrew Tumilty said: "The Herdwick breed of sheep is traditionally associated with the lake district, which is where ours originate from (my wife Meg and I bought our first ewes from Cumbria as a first wedding anniversary present to each other in 2013!)."
"The lambs are born black and as they become a couple of months old, they get white legs and face. By 1-yr-old, their fleece turns a chocolate brown colour and after their first shear (where the wool is clipped off them so they don't get too hot in the summer) their fleece becomes a dark grey in colour, lightening each consecutive year until it becomes almost white."
He went on to say: "The Herdwick, being a traditional breed of sheep, grows slowly and enjoys eating a wide range of vegetation. This makes for a very flavoursome meat."
Everyone is very welcome to bring the kids down and have a look at the lambs which can be seen from the car park at Sunnyfields on North End Lane, Hightown.
