Holy Trinity Tennis Club Ladies Serve up a Victory for Formby!
The ladies of Formby Holy Trinity Tennis Club were able to finally celebrate their success this week when they got their hands on the Ralph Bint trophy.
During last year’s summer months, they battled against other teams throughout Lancashire in a county knockout competition, coming up against previous holders Burnley in the final on a gloriously sunny September day.
Captain Keren Cartwright was proud of all the squad – especially when her team were originally missed from the draw through an administrative oversight. These matches can be really arduous with each of the 3 pairs from both teams playing each other which could mean being on court for maybe 4-5 hours. We didn’t celebrate on the day as we were all too exhausted!
Formby Holy Trinity has 6 mixed teams in the Southport & District league and enters mens and ladies teams into the Lancashire area knockout competitions. But it’s not just all about matches? There is social play throughout the week and Saturday afternoons are all about simply turning up and mixing in with the legendary break for a cup of tea and piece of cake around 3pm.
There is also a junior section, again with opportunity for league matches whilst resident coaches Tarquin Maylem and Alan McGibbon are available for group or individual coaching. And of course, there are social events and various club fun-tournaments throughout the year. If you fancy joining us, why not pop in on any Saturday afternoon or give Gill McGibbon a call on 01704 878121.
