The lingering aftermath of Storm Doris resulted in a mixed weekend of football at Formby Junior Sports Club.
Inter Club football was cancelled on Saturday but most Representative team matches went ahead particularly on Sunday. Very windy conditions and muddy pitches all added to the excitement in the matches that went ahead. In some games it was all out attacks in one half and desperate defending in the other half, or vice versa.
BOYS’ REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 9’s played in the Charity Shield semi-final against S. and B. Rangers Yellows. In the first half the Under 9’s defended with great determination against the wind and a very lively Rangers forward line. Ben Murphy, Christian Mather and Nathan Cousens were outstanding to keep the score goalless at the interval. It all out attack by the Under 9’s at the start of the second half. The team’s efforts were rewarded when Nathan Cousens scored two excellent goals. Rangers came back again only to be denied by some very good goalkeeping by FJSC’s Charlie Lynch. It was end- to- end football in the closing few minutes but there were no further goals. Man of the match in this impressive team display was Ben Murphy.
FJSC Under 8 Whites won all four group matches in the tournament at Edge Hill University. As a result the Whites qualify for the trophy final. Ivan Weights, Joe Hughes, Luke Lewis, Dilan Sathiyanathan, Connor Daulby and Finlay Hunter all scored. Alfie Griffiths played well in defence.
League leaders FJSC Under 13 Blacks won 6-5 against Hesketh Colts. The Blacks were trailing 3-1 at half time and 5-4 with six minutes left. Tony Burke scored his second goal of the match to level the scoreline at 5-5 and in time added on Bill Steel scored the winner and his second of this pulsating match. Goalkeeper Nathan Farley was man of the match. Tait Sheridan and Jacob Williams-Tranter were earlier goal scorers.
Two more FJSC league leaders also won vital matches. FJSC Under 14’s United went one goal behind but came back to win 3-1 against Burscough Dynamo. Josh Smith, Oliver Shaw and Joe McElhinney scored. Defender Dan Clark was man of the match. FJSC Under 15’s won 7 nil against Lydiate. Owen Highton scored a hat trick, Patrick Dutton added a brace and there was one goal apiece for Oliver Morton and Pedro Gomes. Man of the match was James Honour.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks won 2-1 against Hesketh Colts Blue. Dan King and Callum Davidson scored in the second half after Colts had taken a first half lead. Goalkeeper James Adamson made a brilliant save at a crucial time. James Wilson was man of the match.
FJSC Under 11 Whites played FJSC Under 11 Blacks. Man of the match Ellis Parry, Matteo Heaney and Jake McNeight scored for the Whites. Harry Knowles was on target for the Blacks. Also in fine form for the Blacks were Taylor Twentyman, Callum Williams, Marc Whitelaw and Ben Hough.
Reuben Dowling, Jack Yarwood and Sam Mycek scored for FJSC Under 10 Blacks in the match at home to Tarleton. Man of the match was Oliver Mercer. Dylan Riley also played well. FJSC Under 7 Blacks produced a good team display against Southport Trinity. Max McBride and Archie Beckett scored the goals. Luca Kavanagh was man of the match.
GIRLS’ REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 15’s played in the Under 16 Section of the FA People’s Cup. The team did very well and finished equal second in their group with one win and three draws from the four matches played. The squad of Hannah Fraser, Sophie Dixon, Ellie Brewer, Charlotte Doyle, Megan Houston, Nina Macy and Charlotte Armstrong all played their part in the four very good performances.
FJSC Under 14’s lost 3-1 to Preston North End. Lily Hamilton scored and Ella Lawson had an excellent match on a 3G pitch in Skelmersdale. Molly Graham and Abby Hobbs played well. Lucy Robins nearly scored in a rousing second half team display after trailing 3 nil.
FJSC Under 13 Jets lost 4 nil to Dynamo Burscough. Dot Russell-Gajos had an outstanding match. There were near misses from Simone Jones, Karen Lane, Liberty Murphy and Anna Johnson. On another day the scoreline may have been very different.
FJSC Under 12 United played FJSC Under 12 Rangers. After a goalless first half United took their chances after the break to win 3 nil with goals from Yasmin Jones, Lauren Holden and Bella Plows. Lily Hall, Alex Murphy-Worrell and goalkeeper Helena Davies all played well for Rangers. United’s player of the match was Mia Shalliker.
FJSC Under 11 Real played exceptionally well against their older opponents Crosby Stuart but narrowly lost 2-1. Jess Lynch equalised for Real. Rosie Johnson and Maisie Cox defended well. In a tense second half Crosby Stuart scored the winner.
FJSC Under 10 Hotspurs continued to show a return to earlier season form in the match with Town Green. Isabelle Conway, Sarah Allmark and Paige Leather scored. Bo Price and captain for the day Lauren Boardman defended well.
CUP FINAL AND CUP SEMI-FINAL DATES ANNOUNCED
Ten FJSC Representative teams have reached cup finals this season.
Next Sunday March 5th, FJSC Under 7 Blacks and FJSC Under 8 Whites will play in the Under 7 and Under 8 Tournament Finals at Edge Hill University.
At The Rookery, Roe Lane, Southport, on Sunday March 19th, FJSC Under 9’s will play Churchtown Athletic at 10am in the Charity Shield final.
Three finals involving FJSC teams are to be played at the Merseyside Community Stadium, Haig Avenue, and the home ground of Southport FC.
FJSC Under 14 United v Churchtown Athletic on Sunday April 30th, kick off 2pm.
FJSC Under 15’s v Brick Juniors on Monday May 1st, kick off at 12 noon.
FJSC Under 18 Blacks v Churchtown Athletic on Monday May 1st, kick off at 2pm.
The Hightown Girls League semi-final arrangements have also just been released. All the matches will be played at Waterloo Rugby Union Club on Wednesday March 8th.
Under 8 Cup – FJSC Tornados v Litherland Remyca at 6pm.
Under 8 Cup – FJSC Rockets v Ormskirk at 6pm.
Under 11/12 Cup – FJSC Albion v FJSC United at 7pm.
Under 11/12 Shield – FJSC Rangers v Crosby Stuart at 7pm.
Under 11/12 Plate – FJSC Real v S. and B. Rangers at 7pm.
Also at 6pm will be the Under 9 and Under 10 semi-finals. The pairings are still to be determined but could involve FJSC Under 9 Atletico and FJSC Under 10 Hotspurs.
Arrangements for the Under 13 semi-finals are still to be arranged with FJSC Jets taking part in this age group.
In the Liverpool County Under 14 Girls FA Cup, the semi-final has just been drawn. The two West Lancs League teams have been drawn against each other.
FJSC Under 14 Girls will play away at Crosby Stuart on Saturday March 18th.
In the Craven Minor League, cup final arrangements are still to be made for the following matches:-

In the West Lancs Girls’ League FJSC Under 15 Girls are due to play Euxton Girls. Final confirmation of arrangements are pending.

Matches and coaching will be on for Reception and Year One boys at the usual times.
Girls’ coaching for Year Four and Year Five girls will be on at 10.10am followed by matches at 11am.

CLUB NEWS
Formby Junior Sports Club Under 14 Girls will be going on a very exciting short trip to Valencia in May. The highlight of the visit to Spain will be to play Valencia’s Girls’ team.
Later in the summer FJSC Under 14’s United will be taking part in a tournament in Norway.
More details of these two exciting events will be reported in the months to come.
