Formby Library's monthly talks are moving to the second Tuesday of the month with the next event, The Lettuce Line, taking place on Tuesday, February 14. Local historian, author and railway enthusiast, Keith Hick, will be giving the talk detailing the story of The West Lancashire, Southport & Preston Junction Railways. In particular the arrival of the West Lancashire Railway which gave Southport direct access to Preston and East Lancashire, and ultimately Glasgow. The railways, its people, workings and stations are all described from opening in 1878 up to closure in the 1960s. The talk starts at 2pm on Tuesday, February 14 and places are free, however Mr Hick will be collecting any donations for the Royal Liverpool University NHS Broad Green Hospital Trust.
