A Formby school Dinner Lady scoops a top award at North West School Chef 2017 which was held on 17 January 2017 in Altrinchan, Cheshire.
Holly Charnock of Woodlands Primary School, Formby, won a Highly Commended Dessert Award which was Toffee Apple Cake & Chantilly Cream - Deliciously moist apple sponge topped with glossy caramel sauce & creme fraiche accompaniment.
The five North West contestants who qualified to take part in the live Regional Finals, had to cook their dishes against the clock under the scrutiny of a panel of Judges. They had 90 minutes to prepare four portions of a main course and a dessert suitable for serving to 11 year olds in school.
It should be noted that the awarding of any Highly Commended prize in the School Chef of the Year Regional Finals is not automatic and is entirely at the discretion of the judging panel. Holly won her Highly Commended Award as her respective dishes were considered by the Judges to be of a very high professional standard and expertly executed.
