Frank's Football Report
FRANK'S REPORT 21/11/16 21 Nov, 2016
For the first time this season a number of Formby Junior Sports Club matches were cancelled due to the weather. All Inter Club games were called off and some Representative team matches were also postponed. The Hightown Girls’ League and some Craven Minor League fixtures including the Under 7 Tournament were also off on Sunday.
Many of the teams that were lucky to play their matches produced some very good results.
SATURDAY’S MATCH OF THE DAY
FJSC Under 14 Girls’ played away against Brazil Girls’ Under 14’s in the First Round of the Liverpool County FA Under 14 Girls’ Cup. The match was played on a 3G pitch at Walton Hall Avenue, Liverpool.
Brazil from the Liverpool Girls’ League started well as FJSC adapted to the different playing surface. Erin Smith, Sammy Godsall and Abby Hobbs defended well and gradually the Under 14’s began to gain more possession of the ball. After twenty minutes FJSC broke the deadlock and took the lead. From a FJSC corner the Brazil keeper made two good saves before Molly Graham scored with a well-struck shot.
FJSC goalkeeper Rachel Robinson had to be at her best as Brazil came back strongly into the match after half time. Freya Walsh made some very good tackles and Josie McIver used both flanks well.
Lily Hamilton used her speed and dribbling skills and scored two well- taken goals to give FJSC a 3 nil lead. Brazil fought back and scored. FJSC went straight back on to the attack and Lily Hamilton scored again to complete a quick-fire hat trick. Lucy Robins nearly added to the score with a fine effort before Ella Lawson added a fifth goal to complete a wonderful 5-1 cup victory.
It was a very good effort by every squad member. Abby Hobbs was the player of the match.
SUNDAY’S MATCH OF THE DAY
It was a top of the league clash as leaders FJSC Under 14 United played away at second in the Premier Division Churchtown Athletic.
Alex Fowewe-Holt opened the scoring for United after a goalmouth scramble. A perfect cross from Gerard Casterton was volleyed home by Joe McElhinney to give FJSC a 2 nil half time lead.
Churchtown pulled a goal back after the interval but within five minutes FJSC restored their two-goal lead when Matthew Williams scored with a superb free kick. Churchtown were soon only one goal behind again when they scored their second goal. FJSC goalkeeper Max Soares then made the save of the match to deny Churchtown an equalising goal. FJSC United added a fourth goal as the combination of an assist from Gerard Casterton and a great finish again from Joe McElhinney saw United complete a 4-2 win.
With this important victory FJSC Under 14’s United have extended the lead at the top of the division to nine points.
WEEKEND REPORTS
FJSC Under 15 Girls’ played in the Liverpool County FA Under 16 Girls’ Cup against Brazil Under 16 Girls’. Sophie Dixon gave FJSC a first half lead. Brazil drew level in the second half and then scored what turned out to be the winning goal in the final minute. It was a great effort by the younger FJSC Under 15 team. Nina Macy, Ellie Brewer and Hannah Fraser all worked tirelessly. It was the Under 15’s first defeat of the season.
FJSC Under 14 Blacks gained a comfortable win over S. and B. Rangers to maintain their challenge near to the top of the Championship Division. Lewis Constable kept up his record of scoring in every match this season with another hat trick. Man of the match Callum Richmond, Sam Riley and Thomas Marsh all scored two goals each and Matthew Hough and Sam Kendrick also scored one goal apiece.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks found themselves three goals down against league leaders Churchtown after only ten minutes. An Andrew Kimmance goal before half time and a Kyle Phillips strike in the second half made for an exciting finish. The Blacks went all out for a third goal but a Churchtown breakaway goal gave Athletic a 4-2 win.
Luke Lewis scored for FJSC Under 11 Blacks in a very close match with Phoenix Arrows. Defenders Callum Williams, Henry Leason and Thomas Walker defended well. Marc Whitelaw was man of the match.
FJSC Under 10 Blacks produced their best performance of the season in the match with Southport. Despite trailing by a single goal at half time the Blacks played with much confidence after the interval. Jack Yarwood set up Dylan Riley to score. Man of the match goalkeeper Caleb Johnson made some great saves. Dominic Hamilton provided a goal scoring chance for Sam Mycek who made no mistake with a fine finish.
Another team playing their best football of the season was the FJSC Under 9 team. Playing S. and A. Amateurs the FJSC boys created many scoring opportunities. Corey Ashworth, Lewis Parker and Jamie Simpson all scored in a good all round team effort.
FJSC Under 8 Whites played S. and A. Blue and kept their first clean sheet of the season. Connor Daulby, Luke Lewis, Finlay Hunter and man of the match Joe Hughes were all scorers. Alfie Griffiths made some good tackles in defence.
FJSC Under 8 Blacks played FJSC Under 8 Rangers. It was an exciting and very sporting encounter. Scoring for the Blacks were Finley Richards, Thomas Dent and Liam Kirk. James Savage scored for Rangers.
In the only other Representative match played over the weekend FJSC Under 18’s drew 1-1 with FJSC Under 18 Whites.
