75% of Formby High Y11 students achieved 5 A* to C grades (including English and Mathematics) in GCS

After years of preparation, months of arduous exams and weeks of anxious waiting, Formby High School Year 11 students had every reason to celebrate their GCSE results yesterday.

75% of all students achieved 5 A* to C grades (including English and Mathematics) with 78% attaining an A* to C grade in both English and Mathematics.

This sustained record of success is hard fought, year on year, amidst substantial national change to the curriculum, examinations and assessment.

More importantly, however, is the determination their students displayed in the run up to their examinations; they worked incredibly hard to achieve and seized all the opportunities for additional support throughout.

Among the individual successes this year are 17 students who achieved at least 8 A*/A grades and six students who gained a ‘full house’ with 33 A* and 27 A grades between them.

This celebration, though, is not limited Year 11 students. Emily and Karla in Year 8 both achieved A* grades in GCSE German whilst 20 students in Year 10 who have studied GCSE Astronomy as an extra-curricular activity gained outstanding results with 80% of the cohort achieving an A* to C grade.

Headteacher, Dominic Mackenzie, said "We are really pleased with the performance of our Year 11 students this year. They worked incredibly hard and we have been quietly confident since their examinations that they would meet our expectations. There have been some outstanding individual successes and we wish all students the very best for the future. These results are a culmination of the dedication and team effort of the students, staff and parents. I offer my congratulations and thanks to all concerned."

Mrs Fiona Grieveson, Chair of Governors, said "Congratulations to the students on achieving such excellent results and receiving just reward for all their efforts. All Governors wish you good luck with your chosen post-16 pathway and hope to see many of you back in Sixth Form in September! I would also like to offer the Governors' continued thanks to all the staff for their hard work in preparing the students so thoroughly for their examinations."
