Formby High School tops all other schools in Sefton

Formby High School tops all other schools in Sefton knocking Greenbank off the top spot.

According to this year's guide, Formby High School gets top spot with five stars.

Formby High has enjoyed great success recently, having won the secondary school of the year gong at the 2016 ECHO Schools Awards last month.

It was judged 'outstanding' when Ofsted last paid a visit in 2008 and it became an academy four years ago. Formby High boasts a 70% pass rate for five GCSEs, including English and maths - way above the Sefton average of 54.9% and the English state schools average of 57.1%.

The school motto is ‘determined to achieve’ and this is done through "work and encouragement", according to the school's website. It adds: "Outside the classroom our students are encouraged to take part in a wide range of community projects, extra-curricular activities, class trips and fundraising initiatives to build their confidence.

"In doing this they begin to take responsibility for shaping a better future for themselves, their peers and the community beyond the school walls.

"The ambitions and aspirations of our students are nurtured by teaching and pastoral staff and their personal development is at the core of all that we do here.

"All students and staff at Formby High School strive to reach to the highest standards and that is reflected in the positive actions and behaviours that drive them to succeed."

The pass rate in its sixth form for getting three A-levels at grade E or above is 55%, with an average grade of C. The school has just over 1,000 pupils, with 78 teachers.

And 24% of its pupils last year earned the English Baccalaureate qualification - in line with the Sefton and English averages.

Range High School was rated as four stars and ranked 679 out of 3,109. Attainment was 5 stars, Teaching was 3 stars, Attendance was 4 stars, Outcomes was 5 stars.

Ofsted has given Range High School an overall rating of Outstanding.
