Changeover period for refuse collection explanation

Several residents have expressed concerns regarding the changes to the current refuse collection and recycling calendars.

The three and five week intervals will be for the changeover period only, and during this time there will be additional side waste collection days to allow bags of additional waste to be collected.

The only long term change will be to the food bin collection which will change from weekly to fortnightly.

Please see the press release below:

Current printed collection calendars have expired however there are interim collection dates on the internet which run up until 31st July. All residents will receive written notification of the changes and new printed collection calendars during the first 2 weeks of July. When residents receive their new calendars in July some will have a change in collection cycles, all these properties have been identified and will have stickers put on their grey/green bins advising them of extra collections or additional side waste that will be collected to bridge the gap.

GREY RESIDUAL BINS: around 28,000 properties throughout the Borough will have 3 weeks between their last old collection and their first new collection, they will have an “additional side waste” sticker applied to their bin w/c 18th July which will allow up to 2 bags of additional side waste to be collected for this week only.

GREEN BIN COLLECTIONS: around 20,000 properties throughout the Borough will have a gap of 5 weeks between green collections, to facilitate a smooth transition these properties will all have an additional green waste collection on Saturday 30th July and will have an “Extra Green Waste Collection” sticker on their bins on Monday 11th July. Cleansing Services will be running an easy to understand communications campaign and which is very simply entitled: “All Together Now” all glass, cans and paper currently put in green boxes and blue bags will go in the brown bin or hessian recycling bags from 1st August.
