Sandscape - A new book celebrating the Sefton coast

A stunning new book celebrating the natural and cultural treasures of the Sefton coast has just been published. 'Sandscape – the cultural and natural heritage of the Sefton coast' looks at everything on this marvellous coastline from the flora and fauna to aviation history, and is graced by superb images from some of the best photographers in the area. Shipwrecks, bird migration, land speed records, rare plants, feats of aviation and beautiful butterflies all feature in the pages of this new hardback. The project, run by the Sefton Coast Landscape Partnership, was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The partnership is embedded within Sefton Council’s coast and countryside team and promotes the cultural and natural heritage of the Sefton coast. 'Sandscape' is not on general sale at the moment, however, the book is now available on loan from libraries across Sefton. Copies will also be donated to all schools in the borough over the coming weeks. 'Sandscape' is written by John Dempsey, who lives in the borough and previously worked as a journalist on Merseyside for 23 years. For the past seven years he has worked for Sefton Council's Coast and Countryside team and has observed, recorded and enjoyed the wildlife here for four decades. He is currently project officer with Sefton Coast Landscape Partnership. John said: "This book really captures everything associated with our amazing coastline in Sefton. "I'd like to thank everyone who helped me with 'Sandscape' - photographers, historians, naturalists, designers, colleagues and partners on the coast. "Hopefully it will help spread the message about the wonderful treasures we have here and will encourage more people to discover the Sefton coast."
