Formby Junior Sports Club results and Frank's Report

At last Formby Junior Sports Club’s Inter Club Section was once again able to play Saturday morning football at their home at Deansgate Lane. After an enforced absence at Deansgate since 28th November, due to the weather, all age groups were back in full swing with two hundred and sixteen children of all ages playing their matches. It was the second best Inter Club attendance of the season so far. There is no doubt that the seven previous Inter Club sessions on the 3G pitches at Formby Play Sport has helped maintain the children’s interest in this very difficult period for all grassroots and junior clubs across the country. FJSC’s Representative teams also returned to a full programme of matches. One of the best results of the weekend came from our Under 12 Girls in the Hightown Girls’ League. It was the first round of cup matches. Formby Junior Sports Club Under 12 Girls’ Jets won 4 nil against Churchtown Thunder. Liberty Murphy, Lydia Warburton, Simone Jones and Dot Russell-Gajos were the scorers in a very good team performance. Sophie Hall organised the Jets defence well to keep Churchtown at bay. Owen Highton scored four times as FJSC Under 14’s ran out 7-1 winners in their match with Redgate Rovers. Pedro Gomes added two goals and Connor Dewhurst was also on the scoresheet. Man of the match was Elliot Taylor. FJSC Under 12’s drew 2-2 with Hesketh Colts. The Under 16’s recorded a 3 nil win over Southport Trinity to stay top of the division. FJSC Under 13’s United gained a 7-3 victory over Phoenix in the Catherine Oldfield Cup. FJSC Under 16 Girls’ lost 6-1 to league leaders Preston North End Blue in the West Lancs League. Alivia Hutchinson scored and player of the match was defender Emily Byrne. Macy Keam deputising in goal made a string of very good saves. Sophie Dixon was player of the match and a scorer for FJSC Under 14’s. Nanci Farley and Jasmine McComb also played well in the 4-1 defeat away at Burnley. FJSC Under 13 Girls’ lost 5 nil away at Academy but played very well against the title contenders. Josie McIver was the player of the match. Goalkeeper Rachel Robinson played well as did Penny Fletcher in midfield. Lily Hall scored six, a double hat trick, and Erin Denison bagged five for FJSC Rangers in the cup win against S. and B Rangers Yellow. Karen Lane and Chloe Siliprandi supplied the chances with excellent supportive play. Defenders Beth Brewer, Alex Worrell- Murphy and Mollie Murphy all played well in defence. It was a very encouraging display with some excellent passing. Two of FJSC’s Girls’ teams – Real and Hotspurs played against each other in the cup. Real’s Rosie Johnson opened the scoring and played well in defence. Jess Lynch and Bo Price also netted for Real. In reply the young Hotspurs team produced one of their best team displays of the season. Neve Thornton scored twice. Grace Rooney nearly scored what would have been a spectacular goal. Paige Leather, who was captain for the day, and Sarah Allmark both worked tirelessly throughout the match. FJSC Albion played Dynamo Rangers in another league cup match. Two goals from Yasmin Godsall and one goal apiece from Holly Rimmer and Sophia Wright gave Albion a good start in the competition. FJSC Under 10 Blacks match with Southport Trinity White only produced one goal but there was plenty of goalmouth action. Shots from Jacob Lewis and Aiden Kealy came close but Trinity maintained a clean sheet. Callum Williams and Ben Hough defended well. Man of the match was Alex Gunn. It was Tournament Day for FJSC Under 7 Whites. After six matches played the Whites finished top of their group and qualified for the finals to be held on 13th March. James Savage, Dilan Sathiyanathan, Connor Daulby, Finn Bauer and Ivan Weights all scored for the Whites in the tournament. Alfie Griffiths was outstanding in defence. Joe Cooper and Luke Lewis took it in turns to be the team’s goalkeeper and both boys made some vital saves. The team won five of their matches. Also in the same Tournament were FJSC Under 7 Blacks. The Blacks finished third in their group of seven teams and have qualified for the finals as well. The Inter Club Section’s early starters were raring to go at 9am last Saturday and were quickly involved in a very active coaching session taken by new guest coaches Simone and Sam. The Everton Ladies FC striker and Northern Ireland International Simone Magill soon gave the young Reception children a number of shooting tips. Sam Vicker meanwhile introduced a very novel “British Bulldog ” type of football game, involving a ball each, to the very enthusiastic boys. The two coaches were kept very busy throughout the morning coaching the Year One and Two boys and then another two groups – the Years Four, Five and Six girls’ group and the girls in Years Seven and Eight. Our other resident coach Jordan Parker, who is an England Futsal International and Everton Ladies goalkeeping coach, put the Year Four boys and then the Year One, Two and Three girls through their paces. These sessions were also very well attended. All these Inter Club groups after a very short break played their Inter Club matches. It was the start of the League Cup for the boys in Super League Division Three, Super League Division Two and Super League Division One. All the teams in each division will play each other once. The final positions will decide the main cup final pairings, the mini cup finalists and the supplementary cup final teams. The finals will be played on Saturday 30th April. Leopards and Lions won in BSL Division Three. Albion and Rangers got off to a winning start in BSL Division Two. Red Squirrel Rangers and Freshfield Colts lead the way with victories in BSL Division One whilst there was a high scoring draw between Pinewood Athletic and Sandune Rovers in the same age group.

The Girls’ Super League Cup matches will start this Saturday, 5th March.
