FRANK'S REPORT 15/02/1615 Feb, 2016
The half term always proves to be a difficult time for clubs with absentees to squads, due to holiday breaks, being the norm. Unfortunately due to the loss of so many weekends due to the bad weather fixture secretaries had no choice but to arrange cup matches in an attempt to catch up with the backlog already impacting on the fixture programme. The result being in some cases matches being lost due to below strength teams and squads without substitutes.
This is exactly what happened to a number of FJSC Representative teams last weekend and I’m sure to many other clubs as well.
It was cup tie weekend for many Formby Junior Sports Club teams in the Craven Minor League. There were wins for FJSC Under 14’s and FJSC Under 13 Blacks but defeats for six other under strength teams.
The cup match between FJSC Under 14’s and Formby Athletic was closely contested. Both teams played well on a heavy pitch but FJSC eventually triumphed in a 2-1 victory. FJSC Under 13’s Black marched into the next round with a win over Mitch FC Red. There were seven FJSC scorers. Amongst the goals were Oscar Thompson, Harry Forsyth, Bradley Bayliss, Joe Blanchard, Ben Williams, Jack Lemmens and Josh Leddy.
FJSC Under 16’s lost 3-2 to Birkdale United whilst there was also a 3-1 defeat for FJSC Under 17’s in their cup match with Southport FC. The two Under 11 teams also lost their quarter-final matches.
Two FJSC teams were involved in Liverpool County FA Cup matches. FJSC Under 16 Girls played exceptionally well against Tranmere Rovers in the semi-final but lost 1 nil. FJSC player of the match Sally Laughton and Molly Barton commanded the midfield in a dominate first half team display. The Tranmere Rovers defence soaked up the pressure, attacked more after the interval and scored the vital goal. FJSC rallied with Macy Keam and Lauren Williamson very prominent but Tranmere held out. It was a very good effort by the Under 16’s. The team came so close to reaching the final of this prestigious competition.
FJSC Under 13’s United lost 3-0 to TMS in the quarter final of the LCFA Under 13 Boys’ Saturday Cup.
FJSC Under 13 Whites with only ten players were in league action and led 5-4 at half time against Southport. Man of the match James Cunningham scored twice and there was one goal each for Callum Richmond, Thomas Marsh and Josh Steele. Southport produced a very good second half display to score four goals without reply to win 8-5.
FJSC Under 14 Girls travelled to Blackpool but lost 4-1 with all the goals being scored in the second half. Charlotte Doyle was FJSC’s scorer. Olivia Mulvey, Connie Gabriel and Anna Rutherford all played well. Again like so many of our teams at the weekend with no substitutes the girls tired and their opponents took control.
There was a mixture of results in the younger age groups matches with all the teams playing away as once again the Deansgate Lane pitches were unfit.
FJSC Under 10 Blacks played well at Phoenix Aces. Man of the match Tom Rimmer was joined on the scoresheet by Aiden Kealy, Harry Knowles and Jacob Lewis. Goalkeeper Marc Whitelaw saved a penalty.
FJSC Under 9’s with no substitutes were involved in an exciting very close match with Hesketh Red. Oliver Mercer, Martin Melyov and Jacob Heaney scored. Dominic Hamilton and Ernie Weights worked tirelessly. Oliver Mercer was man of the match.
FJSC Under 8’s were back to their best at Burscough. Ben Murphy, Lewis Parker, Jake Stanton and Connor Lloyd all scored and there were solid defensive displays from Corey Ashworth and Oliver Buch-Platt.
Thomas Dent and Finley Richards scored one goal each for FJSC Under 7 Blacks in a low scoring match at Hesketh Colts. Fraser Holloway was man of the match in another pleasing team performance. FJSC Whites played Redgate Black. Man of the match Finlay Hunter scored. Connor Daulby and Luke Lewis also played well.
The FJSC Under 13 Girls match in the West Lancs League was cancelled at Town Green and all six FJSC girls’ teams had a free Sunday in the Hightown Girls’ League due to half term.
The 3G pitches at Formby Play Sport were once again full to the brim with over one hundred and fifty children in the Inter Club Section arriving at various times on Saturday morning for their weekly game of football. For half term this was a very high attendance. It was fully enjoyed by everyone present. The Inter Club atmosphere continues to be quite special and the awful weather in recent weeks has not in the slightest way affected the fantastic enthusiasm of these young footballers.
There were not quite as many goals scored last Saturday – only one hundred and seventy–two! There were 74 goalscorers. 34 were girls and 40 were boys.
