FRANK'S REPORT 25/01/16

Ten Formby Junior Sports Club Representative teams played last weekend. This included a cup semi –final victory and a number of very exciting high scoring matches.
FJSC’s Inter Club Section once again played on the 3G pitches at Formby Play Sport because Deansgate Lane was again unplayable. This change of venue gave one hundred and seventy-five children the opportunity to still have a game of football. The children took this opportunity and three hundred and five goals were scored.
The Representative team performance of the weekend came from FJSC Under 13 United. United defeated Burscough Dynamo Green 6-0 in the Tom Galvin Cup semi-final.
Sean Jones came close to scoring for FJSC after fifteen minutes. Soon after Gerard Casterton finished in style with a looping shot over the Burscough keeper. Oliver Shaw made it 2 nil before half time scoring with a header from a corner. Alex Fowewe-Holt worked tirelessly in midfield.
Gerard Casterton added two further goals in the second half to complete his hat trick. Late on Jenson Finn and man of the match Ben Adams completed the scoring with one goal each. Zion Mwanyae made some crucial interceptions as Burscough fought back strongly and twice hit the crossbar.
In the other semi-final FJSC Under 13 Blacks lost 7-5 in a thrilling cup- tie with Redgate Rovers. Jack Lemmens two, Dan Griffin, Jaime Ditchfield and Bradley Bayliss with his first goal for the club, were all on the scoresheet. Man of the match was Ben Williams. It was a great game in which the young FJSC team produced a wonderful comeback.
Ellie Brewer scored twice as FJSC Under 14 Girls came back from one goal down to win 3-2 at Euxton Girls in the West Lancs League. Anna Rutherford also scored. Nanci Farley and Megan Houston defended well as Euxton finished the match strongly.

Girls doing the fitness training

FJSC Under 13 Girls played at Edge Hill University and narrowly lost 2 nil to Crosby Stuart. FJSC conceded a goal in each half but had chances throughout the match. Twice the Crosby Stuart woodwork was struck. Shots from Molly Graham, Lily Hamilton, Penny Fletcher and Freya Walsh all went close. Player of the match was defender Abby Hobbs.
In the Hightown Girls’ League nearly all FJSC teams were in action for the first time since the end of November. In the Under 12 Division FJSC United won 5 nil against FJSC Jets. Player of the match Hannah Allmark and Freya Thornton scored two goals each. Yasmin Jones was also on target. United’s Mia Shalliker, Lauren Holden and Amy Green defended well to keep the Jets’ forwards at bay.
There was another high scoring thirteen goal thrilling match between FJSC Real and Dynamo Rangers. The Real girls just fell short of what would have been an excellent draw. Jess Lynch scored a stunning hat trick. Ava Lewis, Maisy Cox and Bo Price also scored. It was a very good team effort.
FJSC Hotspurs played well against Hesketh Colts. Grace Rooney scored two well-taken goals. Captain for the day Iris Davidson played well. Goalkeeper Aimee Walsh made some good saves and Lottie Atherton and Sian Sturdy defended well.
A goal in each half from Yasmin Godsall and Sophia Wright helped to secure a hard fought win for FJSC Albion over Litherland Remyca. Albion’s goalkeeper Holly Rimmer made three consecutive saves to deny Remyca in a very close match.
FJSC Under 9 Boys arranged a very enjoyable friendly match at Edge Hill against Birkdale. Jacob Heaney, Martin Melyov and Sam Mycek all scored. Oliver Mercer was excellent in defence. The man of the match award went to Ernie Weights for a much improved defensive display.
FJSC Under 14 Girls’ played in the FA People’s Cup on Sunday in Thornton. The girls quickly adapted to the 5 aside format and finished second in their group - winning two and drawing one of the four matches played.
Also on Sunday, members of the FJSC Under 13 Girls’ squad took part in fitness tests administered by Liverpool John Moore’s University. This included yo-yo testing, speed and agility testing and jumping ability. The latest hi tech equipment was used. The recorded results will be emailed out and in three months time the girls will be retested to see how they have faired. Even the girls playing positions have been taken into consideration. It was great fun, enjoyed by all the girls and a number of volunteer dads as well. LJMU will be able to input the results into their sports system software.
The attendance at Inter Club was the best we have ever had playing on the 3G pitches (175). Every Inter Club age group was invited over the four-hour period.
Every attempt to record the names of the scorers was made but trying to decipher some of the names was a task in itself. Our thanks to the volunteer refs who tried to keep up with the scoring of a total of 305 goals. Congratulations to some children who scored for the very first time.
