Public consultation opened into the new location proposed for Formby Post Office
The Post Office is proposing to move Formby 's Little Altcar Post Office from its current location to create a modern main-style branch with extended opening hours down the road.
The proposed new location for the branch is Bargain Booze, 77 Liverpool Road, Formby - 30 metres from its current site at 93 Liverpool Road.
Please note that Bargain Booze is not closing down, the Post Office will be within Bargain Booze. What this actually means is that the post office services will be available from 9am until 10pm six days a week and from 12noon until 10pm on a Sunday - Open seven days a week.
Billy who is currently the Postmaster in Little Altcar Post Office said he was made an offer to come out of his original Post Office contract. He wanted to make sure his Post Office would remain on this particular row of shops because he valued his customers and that he had been established there for twenty years.
Bargain Booze have an obligation to keep the staff that are currently employed at the Post Office but do not have to keep the Postmaster but, Billy has offered his services to them. We will have to wait and see if he remains working from the new location.
Formby and the Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation.
As well as more space, more opening hours are proposed - with an extra 47 hours of Post Office service a week put forward.
Suzanne Richardson, Area Manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Formby and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
She added: “This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
During the public consultation, Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal.
The consultation will close on October, 22.
