PLANS to improve the shop frontage and shopping district of Redgate in Formby has been revealed by ward councillors and Sefton Council officers. It was announced at the recent Sefton Central Area Committee meeting that Sefton Council hope to improve the shopping area of Redgate, by developing the shop frontages and making the appearance of the street more desirable to visitors. Currently the plans are in the early stages and Sefton Council chiefs are working along side ward councillors and traders to develop a strategy to improve the shopping district. Land ownership checks are in the process of being completed and officers from Sefton's Parks and Greenspaces are working on drawing up plans for the area. The news comes just months after traders started a shop local campaign to make Redgate more accessible to visitors. For years business owners in Redgate have complained that people visiting Formby find it difficult to find their shops, because they are hidden away behind a large residential area. This has lead to traders losing out on customers. In a bid to increase customers and visitors, they set up an appeal to have signs installed around Formby directing people to Redgate shops, the signs were installed and traders have said they have noticed a significant increase of customers visiting the area. A spokesperson for Redgate's Shop Local Campaign said: “People should support small businesses. ”We are all normal parents trying to put food on the table or shoes on feet for our families. “We really do appreciate every sale, every recommendation and that little bit of encouragement when things are tough. ”We need the community's support to survive. “The plan to improve the shop frontages and shopping district of Redgate would have a massive impact on our trade and our businesses could thrive. ”Hopefully if this gets the go ahead more people will want to visit Redgate and see what we have to offer. “At the moment we are hidden away and we need something to make us stand out from the crowd.”
