Three people arrested after police car chase through Bootle

A car flipped over after a police chase through Bootle.
Officers in an unmarked police car attempted to stop the driver of a Volkswagen Golf at around 8pm tonight, but the driver made off.
A police pursuit followed until the Golf crashed into two other cars, an Audi Q3 and a Ford Focus, flipping on to its roof and then landing back on its wheels.
The crash happened at the junction of Stanley Road and Bedford Road.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene and witnesses said they saw men jumping out of the Golf.
One said: “They jumped out and ran but the driver gave himself up to police.
“They handcuffed him and put him in the back of a police car .
“About 10 minutes later, an ambulance turned up and he was put on a spinal board on a stretcher, put in the back of an ambulance and off he went to hospital.”
Two men driving the Audi and the Focus received minor injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution.
A police spokesman said: “The driver and two other men who were in the Golf are believed to have run off from the scene.
“An extensive search of the area was immediately carried out by officers and, a short time later, three men were arrested.
“They were taken to hospital for treatment to various injuries and will be questioned by detectives in due course on suspicion of burglary, aggravated unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.
"A number of small bags containing suspected Class A drugs were also found in the Golf and these substances will be subject to testing in due course."
The junction of Stanley Road and Balliol Road was closed off in both directions while the VW Golf is being recovered for forensic enquiries to be carried out.
An investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the incident is continuing.
