We’ve brought together events and activities taking place in Formby, Hightown, Ainsdale, Southport, Birkdale, Churchtown, Crosby, Waterloo, Blundellsands, Seaforth, Litherland, Bootle, Maghull, Lydiate, Aintree, Netherton and Thornton.


Every event and attraction in this guide is located within Sefton.


We’ve also included some regular attractions and free places to visit for families looking for ideas over the weekend.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Launch and Military Vehicle Display

Waitrose, Three Tuns Lane, 10am to 4pm.

FREE. A special event marking the launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal, with military vehicles on display and fundraising activities.


Royal British Legion Women’s Section Coffee Morning

Holy Trinity Church Workshop, 9am to noon.

A fundraising coffee morning supporting the Royal British Legion.


Shoebox Express Grand Charity Bazaar

Formby Methodist Church Hall, Elbow Lane, 10am to 4pm.

FREE admission. Charity stalls, gifts and refreshments, raising money to bring Christmas joy to children in Ukraine.


Living with RSD Workshop with Sue Raby

Formby Little Theatre, 11am to 1pm.

£20 per person. An educational workshop exploring rejection sensitivity, why rejection can feel so overwhelming and practical ways to manage it.

Puzzles, Pizza and Prosecco Charity Night

The Pumpkin Patch Hightown

A regular Sunday service, open to the community.


Toddler Church

A family-friendly Harvest Parade service, with donations of tinned food, packaged food and toiletries welcomed for the local food bank.

There is plenty happening in Southport this weekend, with live entertainment, comedy, films, markets and family activities.

Paul Merton and Suki Webster’s Improv Show

Southport Comedy Festival, Victoria Park.

Doors open at 7pm, with the show starting at 8pm.

Tickets £26 plus booking fee. The performance is currently showing a waiting list.


The Unfriend

Southport Little Theatre, Hoghton Street.

The final advertised performance of this comedy production.

Dead of Night Film Festival

Southport Bijou Cinema.

A weekend of horror, fantasy, science fiction and thriller films, including independent short films.

The festival continues on Sunday.


The West End Day Party

A daytime celebration of musical theatre featuring West End hits, singalongs and entertainment.

Adam Kay: This Is Going To Hurt

Southport Comedy Festival, Victoria Park.

What Happens in Vegas with Asa Murphy

The Grand, Southport, 1pm.

An afternoon of Vegas-style entertainment, featuring music, comedy and classic showbusiness favourites.

Makers Market at Hesketh Park

A market featuring independent makers and traders.

Harvest Festival Service and Lunch at St Cuthbert’s Church

The Southport Comedy Festival runs until 18 October, with Paul Merton and Suki Webster performing on Saturday and Adam Kay on Sunday.

Big Green Fair and Halloween Costume Swap

Crosby Library, 10.30am to 1pm.

FREE admission and activities.

The event includes free children’s activities, opportunities to meet local environmental groups, information about recycling changes and advice on improving home energy efficiency.

There will also be a children’s Halloween costume swap.

Families are encouraged to bring along costumes their children have outgrown.


Marine FC v Spalding United

Marine Travel Arena, Crosby, 3pm.

Marine FC will take on Spalding United, with a special offer providing FREE admission for women.

The initiative has been organised by the Marine FC Fans Board.

Women can claim a free ticket using promotional code WOMENSDAY when booking through Marine FC’s ticketing website.


Waterloo Flea Market and Vintage Fair

Old Christ Church, Waterloo Road.

Halloween is getting closer, and there are two pumpkin-picking locations within Sefton for families looking for an autumn activity.


The Pumpkin Patch Hightown

FREE admission. No booking required.

Families can explore the pumpkin patch and choose their own pumpkins, paying only for those selected.

HARVEST FESTIVALS AND CHURCH ACTIVITIES

October is traditionally a time when churches across Sefton hold harvest celebrations, thanksgiving services and collections for local food banks.

The following celebrations have been advertised for this weekend, although the arrangements still require confirmation with the churches.
