Well done to the ten Formby Junior Sports Club teams who managed to play their Sunday matches despite Storm Amy

ree

Well done to the ten Formby Junior Sports Club teams who managed to play their Sunday matches in very difficult playing conditions. Unfortunately all Saturday’s matches and the Inter Club Section had to be called off due to Storm Amy.

REPRESENTATVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 15 Blacks extended their winning streak to three games on Sunday with an 8-1 win against Borussia Dovecot. Battling strong winds and driving rain FJSC got off to a quick start as Ethan Richmond scored an early hat trick to put them 3-0 up after excellent build up play from both Tom Donnelly and Ethan Murphy. Ethan Tucker then finished well from a corner to add a fourth, before Ollie Dean drove into the box and fired home to make it five. Dovecot pulled one back from a freekick. Yaroslav Vovnianko then came close to getting on the score sheet with a curling effort, before Ethan Murphy chipped the goalkeeper after a clever through ball from Ollie Dean, giving FJSC a 6-1 lead at half time.

In the second half Abe Rice was unlucky not to score with a long range shot but the rebound was tucked away by Evan Hughes.Ethan Richmond added another before the end with a finish into the top corner, making it three wins out of three for the Blacks and a joint top of the league position. See squad photo above.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks Sunday team started brightly against Redgate Rovers, dominating the midfield through the tireless efforts of Oscar Butch-Platt, Caden Walker, and Louis Evans, continuing the control they’ve shown in recent matches. It didn’t take long for the breakthrough when some clever interplay between Oscar and Caden released a perfectly timed through ball to Louis O’Connor, who calmly slotted home to give FJSC the lead.  As the first half progressed, FJSC pushed for a second goal. A slick combination between Charlie Richardson and Louis O’Connor set up Louis again, who finished confidently to make it 2-0.

However, with FJSC in command, a lapse in defence allowed Redgate back into the game with a close-range goal at the back post.

Showing great resilience, FJSC quickly regained composure. Soon after, strong link-up play between Alfie Forsyth and Charlie Richardson enabled Louis O’Connor to complete his hat-trick, restoring a two-goal cushion at 3-1 by half time.

With the wind now in FJSC’s favour after the break, much of the action took place in Redgate’s half. Wingers Seb Goatley and Ben Webster created numerous chances down the flanks, constantly pressuring the opposition. Once again, good play in midfield and a Louis Evans through ball, released Louis O’Connor, who coolly finished for his fourth goal of the game. Soon after, a well-struck shot from Charlie Richardson rattled the crossbar from a corner, and a free-kick from Oscar Butch-Platt met the same fate minutes later.

Defensively solid at the back with Ellis Coyne, Alex Barr, Sylvan O’Hara, and Oscar Phillips in goal, FJSC’s composed play paid off as Louis O’Connor claimed his fifth goal of the match. Finally, a strong run and finish from Seb Goatley, assisted by a precise cross from the right, sealed a solid 6-1 victory. Overall it was a fantastic team performance with standout displays from Alfie Forsyth and Louis O’Connor, who both earned Man of the Match honours.

FJSC Under 12 Reds hosted Formby Wanderers on a blustery day at Deansgate and started the game slowly which the visitors took advantage of passing easily through the defence and taking an early lead. The Reds struggled playing against the wind but tried to make things happen through midfield but were forced back and were unlucky to concede a second against the run of play. Heads dropped and frustration kicked in causing a loss of focus and despite several great saves and rushing out from goalkeeper Brett McKeown the boys conceded again from sloppy defending of a corner and found themselves 3 nil down at half time.

The second half saw the boys playing with the wind at their backs and made some great progress with Chase Lowen and Izakk Hill getting through on goal but were unable to make it count. Jacob Holton showed great strength to hold up play in midfield before sliding a perfect pass through to Izakk Hill who slotted past the keeper for his third goal of the season. Wanderers were too strong and quick on the break and despite heroic defensive displays from Mason Todd and Max Fairhurst they managed to sneak a fourth. The last five minutes was all out attack from FJSCReds with long passes from Brett McKeownsetting the strikers clear on several occasions and also gained multiple corners but the Wanderers defence and keeper stood strong and they came out deserved winners.

FJSC Under 12 Whites won their match against Bleak Hill Rovers Celtic with goals scored by Kayden Watters, Zac Cooper, Huey Stevenson, Paddy O’Callaghan, Reuben Hunt,  and Zac McHugh.

FJSC Under 11 Gold showed great determination, teamwork, and resilience throughout their match against Southport Trinity Whites. FJSC’s passing was much improved, and it made a noticeable difference to the overall flow of the game. The defensive line was held higher and was more effective which contributed to a stronger team shape and better control of the match. Players were well organised during set-piece situations, marking their opponents closely and working hard to regain possession. Every player demonstrated commitment, focus, and a positive attitude, which is a credit to the team as a whole.

Charlie Herbert worked tirelessly throughout the match, covering plenty of ground and contributing both defensively and in attack. Lewis McColl also played very well, showing good discipline by maintaining his position and supporting the team effectively. A special mention must go to Leo McBurney, who performed exceptionally well in goal makingseveral outstanding saves and showed great composure in one-on-one situations against the opposition attackers. Overall, it was a strong team performance full of effort, organisation, and improvement. Well done to everyone involved.

FJSC Under 10 Whites are improving each week. After ten minutes play against Crosby Stuart it was goalless. Unfortunately after a change in Crosby Stuart’s team the Whitesconceded a number of goals within a short space of time. Not one of the boys gave up and even though FJSC were constantly under a lot of pressure the boys still gave there all. In the second half FJSC played very well andonly conceded two goals after a good team talk from Assistant Coach Luke Faraday which all the squad listened to intently. By taking on the tactical advice given by Luke the team showed a great improvement. The Man of the Match award went to Michael Mosesfor his constant pressure in defence.

FJSC Under 8 Whites played away at Southport Athletic.  Their opponents scored some very good goals but the Whites created several chances themselves, with shots going just wide or over, and when on target theSouthport Athletic keeper pulled off a few excellent saves to deny FJSC Whites from scoring.

Despite the final score line, the team showedgreat character keeping their discipline and not shying away from tackles. Man of the Match was Anders Carter who led by example, battling hard throughout and keeping his cool under pressure. He was unlucky not to score, having had a few good efforts on goal.

For the first time in six years FJSC fielded three teams at the Under 6 age group in the Sefton and Knowsley Development League.

FJSC Under 6 Whites played Redgate Rovers Blacks in a topsy-turvy  fourteen goal thriller. FJSC struggled in the early phases of the game and went seven goals behind. EzekielFitzgibbon sparked the Whites into life with his endless running and tackling and got his just reward with a goal towards the end of the second third. This gave Formby a well-deserved breakthrough. Theo Benton who had been growing into the game scored an amazing five goals to put FJSC in touching distance of a superb comeback. It was a gutsy display in tough conditions from all the boys.

FJSC Under 6 Blacks were in action against River Rio. It was a good performance with thefinal score line not reflecting on how close and competitive the match had been. There were strong debuts from Noah Kamel and WillOsborne who both should be really proud of themselves. Josh Kefford recovered from an early knock to come back in to the game and make some surging attacking runs with the ball. Player of the Match was Arthur Sumptonwho worked tirelessly, made some timely tackles and was unlucky not to be rewarded with a goal.

FJSC Under 6 Reds played Next Gen and were straight out of the starting blocks.  The boys maintained their energy throughout the match, keeping the pressure on, with some great tackling and excellent passing. James Curran and Miles Jones scored two goals each, but Leo Clarke was Player of the Match with four goals in a very good overall team performance.
