Children and families in Formby can now enjoy a completely refreshed play area at Alt Road Park, following a major programme of improvement works funded by Sefton Council.
The popular park has been given a significant makeover, creating a safer, more accessible and welcoming space for local families.
What’s new?
🛝 A range of brand-new play equipment, including a rope climbing frame and seesaw.
🎨 New colourful, safety-tested play surfacing throughout the play area.
🚧 New perimeter railings, creating a fully enclosed play space for children.
🔧 Existing play equipment has been refurbished where possible, with older items removed to make way for new facilities.
🚶 New macadam footpaths have been built around the outside of the play area, improving access between the Pinewood Park estate and Alt Road.
🚪 A wider maintenance gate has been installed to allow easier access for Green Sefton teams.
🪑 New benches, a litter bin and updated signage have also been added for visitors.
The layout has also been redesigned so that dog owners can continue to access the fenced dog exercise area separately, while children can enjoy the enclosed playground safely.
Located just off the Formby Bypass, Alt Road Park has been a favourite green space for generations. The improvements were funded through Section 106 contributions from the nearby Pinewood Park housing development, alongside additional funding from Formby East Ward to deliver improvements suggested by local residents.
Green Sefton worked alongside Sefton Council’s Communities team and Formby ward councillors to develop the scheme, with local residents consulted throughout the process to help shape the final design.
Councillor Joanne Williams, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said the investment will help provide children with a safe, natural environment to play while strengthening community wellbeing for years to come.
The newly upgraded play area is now open and ready to welcome families throughout the summer holidays.
