Formby Junior Sports Club’s team of the season so far, the Under 11 Blacks kept up their one hundred percent winning record. It was exciting football all weekend with the extra ingredient of muddy pitches which was particularly enjoyed by the club’s youngest members.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 11 Black ended the first half of the season away to Southport Trinity Black. In wet and muddy conditions and with only nine players available and no substitutes FJSCfaced a very sharp and competitive Trinity side.
After a slow first ten minutes the boys started to click through the gears with Asher Fields and Ashley Jones both going close. The defence of Idris Jones, Isaac Melton and Joseph Kerrigan marshalled the dangerousSouthport Trinity attack and allowed the midfield of Olly Stinson and Noah Underwood some breathing room to start their regular passing game. It was after this improved spell that Ashley Jones was played through one on one by Asher Fields androunded the keeper only to be brought down. Ashley Jones then took the penalty but was denied by a great save from the opposition keeper but was very alert to turn home the rebound to give FJSC a 1 nil advantage.
Unfortunately despite a good first half performance Jack Hansen suffered an injury and for a long spell in the second half Formby had to defend their lead with only eightplayers. This one man advantage spurred on Trinity who nearly equalised but for some great defensive blocks and saves. Max Byford also pulled off an incredible finger-tip save, pushing the ball onto the bar when it looked destined for the top corner.
FJSC continued to look dangerous on the attack with Jack Hansen and Ashley Jones both going close with the latter hitting the bar from range. The Blacks showed real tenacity, grit and determination to see the game out. It was a great example of a team effort to get the win.
The result means that FJSC Blacks have remarkably continued their hot streak and won every game this season! The whole team should be incredibly proud of their achievements. See the team photograph above.
FJSC Under 14 Blacks Saturday team played Ormskirk West End in very difficult conditions on a heavy pitch at Buckley Hill. In the first half FJSC definitely had the upper hand. Whilst limiting Ormskirk to just onechance, FJSC could not make the most of their possession. The second half was a bit more open as the pitch began to sap energy from both teams. The Blacks would normally step through the gears at this point but fatigue set in. Mistakes were made by both teams but neither team could take advantage and whenthe final whistle was blown the two teams had to settle for a very unusual 0-0 score.
It was frustrating but not the worst result as both teams could have won it in the last five minutes. Credit to goalkeeper Ben Gregoryand the back four for keeping a clean sheet. All the boys did well but the Man of the Match went to Oskar Wood who dominated in midfield and gave everything from start to finish.
FJSC Under 14 Blacks were in action again on Sunday and played an extremely talented and well organised Liver Juniors. For the first time this season after a tremendous sequence of winning results the Blacks suffered a heavy defeat. Liver Juniors seemed to have players available in every area of the pitch and thiswas down to the Blacks over eagerness to win the ball as individuals and not collectively. Whether tiredness from the gruelling match the day before was a factor there was no doubt that their opponents were very good. Lessons will have been learned especially about using their voices to communicate more along with positional awareness.
The encouraging factor was the spirited response in the second half and the two goals from Fabian Reilly and Ben Harris. The pitch got heavier and heavier and became unplayable causing the referee to rightlyabandon the game .
FJSC Under 14 Whites had a really good game against Crosby Stuart in the cup. Will Rawsthorne equalised after Crosby Stuart had taken the lead. The Whites played well throughout the game. At full time it remained 1-1. There were no further goals in extra time so the match went to penalties. Unfortunately the Whites lost the shoot-out 3-2. PeterCunningham played exceptionally well and was Man of the Match for having a solid game at right back which is not his natural position. Luca Duncalf also deserves a special mention for a very good effort.
There were very good results on Saturday for the club’s two FJSC Under 12 teams.
In Hightown Premier Division the Whites won 5-2 against Redgate Rovers Blacks to stay top of the division. Sonny Callister score twice and there was one goal each from Diego Funes-Cervera and Huey Stevenson.
There was also a good 6 nil win for FJSC Under 12 Blacks against Skem Youth in the Championship Division. There were six scorers – Joseph Kenyon, James Coulton, Jasper House, Michael Wain, Archie Walker and Leo Judge. The Man of the Match award was shared by Finn McDerby and Leo Judge.
On Sunday FJSC Under 12 Blacks lost 1-4 to Sutton Junction. Archie Walkers scored and the Joint Players of the Match were Will Sadler and Albie Graham.
FJSC Under 10 Whites were in action against Southport Athletic
on a very wet and miserable morning. The boys started the game well and it was nice to see Teddy Mills back after a short illness.Once again Teddy was absolutely fantastic in goal making some great saves. At half time the Whites were losing 3 nil and had all to play for. Unfortunately with no substitutes the boys began to tire in the second half whichproved difficult and a few more goals were conceded. The Whites had some good shots on target though and are definitely improving andplaying with determination each week.
FJSC Under 10 Blacks played away atSouthport Athletic JFC Blacks. Both teamsstarted brightly, creating early chances despite a muddy surface that made clean football difficult. Credit to both sides, who still tried to get the ball down and pass. Athletic’spersistent play earned them a 2-0 lead, but FJSC responded in the right way with a well-worked team goal rounded off by Daniel MacArthur to pull one back and lift spirits.Just before half time, a hopeful long-range effort from inside Athletic’s own half caught the FJSC goalkeeper out, sending the hosts in 3-1 ahead.
The second half, however, was a different story. Athletic struck twice early on and with it a FJSC comeback was dashed. A tough mix of defensive mistakes, tired legs and the weather taking its toll saw FJSC concede more goals before the end. The second half was not reflective of how FJSC have been playing for most of the season. This match was one to learn from, forget, and move on quickly.
FJSC Under 9 Blacks played Southport Athletic Black. Athletic started the game strongly getting an early goal followed in quick succession with the second. Undeterred FJSC continued to battle hard with some good moments of play only to be thwarted by the away keeper.
Another goal for Southport Athletic was scored but FJSC dug deep and Ted Middleton found a way through to get the Blacks on to the scoresheet in the final minutes of the first half.
FSJC’s Sam O’Brien scored two quick goals early in the second half to level the score. With a game of plenty of chances and excitement Ted Middleton again found himself one on one with the goalie and neatly slotted home to give FJSC the lead for the first time. The battle between the two teams continued and in the dying seconds of the matchSouthport found a last minute equaliser to draw 4-4.
With mounting pressure in the second half Harley Rae made several outstanding saves proving why he is FJSC Blacks number 1 keeper.
Overall it was an outstanding team effort from all the boys. They all worked tirelessly and never let their heads go down, with good communication and with amazing team work the Blacks got back in the game. Man of the Match was awarded to Oscar Craven for his outstanding defensive skill, Teddy Ball for tirelessly working up and down the wing and to Ted Middleton who is currently commandeering the centre midfield position.
FJSC Under 9 Reds completed their pre-Xmas fixture list against Marina Sands. The Reds started well and took the lead with a lovely strike from Ray Burnett. Chances continued to flow at both ends during the first half. Ted Regan rattled the cross bar during the entertaining exchanges.
The second half continued in the same vein with Isaac Kamel continuing to impress down the right hand side of the midfield. Ray Burnett doubled his tally with another sweet strike. This was followed by a goal from a Milo House corner which ricocheted in off a cluster of players. Again the boys can be proud of their performances and the great strides they are making as individuals and as a team. The Man of the Match award was jointly shared by Ray Burnett and Isaac Kamel.
