It’s currently 27°C here in #Formby, and while many are enjoying the sunshine, the heat is set to ramp up even further – with the UK potentially hitting 33°C today, making it the hottest day of the year so far.
As the heatwave intensifies, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms, in place from 3pm this Saturday until 4am Sunday.

While Formby isn’t currently in the highest-risk area, we could still see some thunder, lightning, and heavy downpours, especially later this evening or overnight.
The Met Office warns that the most intense storms could bring:
Frequent lightning ⚡
Large hailstones 🧊
Strong gusty winds 🌬️
Sudden heavy rain 🌧️
🚗 There’s also a chance of:
Travel disruption
Localised flooding
Short-term power cuts
Isolated areas being cut off by water
🔥 With dry conditions continuing, fire crews are urging caution. England and Wales have already seen a dramatic rise in wildfires this year — a 717% increase compared to this time in 2024.
🚫 Please be mindful if you’re out enjoying the countryside, dunes, or Formby woods:
No disposable BBQs
Don’t discard cigarettes
Take litter home
Keep an eye on elderly neighbours, stay hydrated, and avoid walking dogs during peak heat.
Formby Bubble will keep you posted if there are any local storm alerts or weather changes. In the meantime, enjoy the sunshine safely and stay prepared.
