There were some excellent results for a number of Formby Junior Sports Club’s team’s last weekend.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 11 Blacks produced a determined and hard-working performance to secure a well-earned victory away to Southport Trinity Blacks in extremely challenging weatherconditions at The Rookery.

Heading into the match, the odds were already stacked against the Blacks. Missing three influential players from their usual squad, only nine Formby players took to the field, fully aware it would be a tiring morning. To add to the challenge, the team were also without one of their coaches who is currently recovering from a recent knee operation.  Despite the setbacks, the nine players in black and white stripes showed tremendous spirit from the start, battling not only a strong Trinity side butalso relentless cold rain.

The opening fifteen minutes saw both teams cancel each other out, with neither team ableto gain a clear advantage. However, the breakthrough came for FJSC when Alex Rowley’s shot was saved but parried into Jack Hansen, who tucked the ball brilliantly into the net to give the visitors a deserved 1–0 lead.

Trinity was soon handed a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty after a great save by Max Byford. Goalkeeper Max Byford guessed correctly and was unlucky not to keep the ballout as Trinity drew level at 1–1.

As the match continued, the worsening weather began to take its toll on every player on the pitch.  The FJSC team refused to fadeand showed real grit and determination.   They continued to press forward and were rewarded when Alex Rowley, now playing in a deep midfield role, played a ball from deep through to Ashley Jones, who calmly finished to restore the lead for Formby.  Southport Trinity pushed hard for an equaliser and applied constant pressure late in the game, but the FJSC defence stood firm, showing resilience and organisation to keep the attacks at bay.  A special mention goes to Olly Stinson, who delivered an outstanding performance throughout the match and was deservedly awarded Man of the Match.

Considering the tough conditions, the reduced squad, and the strength of the opposition, this was a fantastic team effort and a result the Formby Junior Sports Club players can be extremely proud of.   See team photograph above.

FJSC Under 14 Whites lost 2 nil to second in the league Southport Trinity Whites.  The Whites produced a very good effort but could not find the net.  Man of the Match was Luca Duncalf.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks Saturday team started well against Crosby Stuart with some determined tackling to try and get a foothold in the match. The pressure paid off during the first half as Isaac Jones finished a good chance to make it 1 nil to FJSC and that’s how it remained until half time.

At the beginning of the second half after some sustained pressure from Crosby Stuart, a shot from outside the area deflected high into theFJSC net from an attempted block to make it 1-1. FJSC had chances to retake the lead and then with only a few minutes left Crosby Stuart latched onto a mistake to make it 2-1and held the slender lead until the final whistle was blown. It was a good performance by the Blacks despite the disappointing result.

FJSC Under 10 Blacks produced a brilliant team performance against Southport FC Community Yellow in an exciting ten goal thrilling and hard-fought contest.  Despite conceding first, FJSC responded exactly the right way. Their positive attacking intent was clear from the outset, and they quickly turned the game around to surge into a deserved 5-2 lead. Going forward, Formby looked sharp, confident and full of energy, while their finishing gave Southport plenty to deal with.

Southport showed real quality at times and carried a threat throughout, but FJSC’s hard work on defensive discipline in training paid off. The team looked far more organised without the ball, stayed switched on in key moments, and battled well when Southport tried to force their way back into the match.

The second half brought more goals and plenty of drama, with both sides continuing to attack.  Formby kept going and the boys worked hard for one another, and fully deserved the final outcome which was never certain until the final whistle. It was a great result for FJSC U10 Blacks, with every player making a valuable contribution in a win that showed exactly what it takes to succeed as a team.

FJSC Under 9 Blacks played Southport Athletic Red on a wet Sunday with worsening weather conditions. The Blacks were slow to get going and Southport Athletic seized on the opportunity and took an early lead. FJSC soon regrouped and countered with a quickfire first half hat trick from Ted Middleton.

There were changes made at half time. Theo Dunn went into midfield and soon got his name on the scoresheet after putting pressure on the Southport Athletic defence.  A Sam O’Brien shot was well saved by the Southportkeeper but the ball rebounded to Teddy Ball who smashed it home in the closing seconds of the game.

It was an impressive team display from all the players especially in such horrible conditions. The Man of the Match was shared by Ted Middleton and Teddy Ball.

FJSC Under 9 Reds continued their league fixtures against Southport and Ainsdale Reds. The game started well for FJSC with Isaac Kamel continuing his good recent form with some positive early forays into the opposition’s half. After another good move Alex Kirkby was rewarded with a neat finish towards the end of the first half.

The second half started in a similar fashion with the FJSC Reds pressing for more goals with numerous chances. Isaac Kamel capitalised on a through ball to extend the lead further midway through the half.  S & A came back in to the game late on and scored two goals against the run of play but FJSC Reds can again be proud of their performances. Man of the Match was Lucas Kelly.

FJSC Under 8 Whites Sunday team played Hesketh Bank Rangers.

The tone was set early when Cian O’Farrellscored a remarkable hattrick inside the opening few minutes which gave the team much confidence.  The team settled into a great rhythm, playing with energy, organisation, and real togetherness.

Full credit goes to the opposition, who worked hard throughout and kept playing with spirit. Both teams contributed to a competitive and enjoyable fixture, watched proudly by families on the touchline.  Formby’s attacking play was particularly effective, with quick transitions and excellent movement off the ball. CianO’Farrell led the scoring, while Anders Carter, Sammy Porter and Tom Babun each added welltaken finishes of their own. The goals were the end product of strong teamwork across the pitch, with every player contributing — both in and out of possession.

The standout performance of the day came from Jack Kefford, who earned Man of the Match honours for his tireless work rate, intelligent passing, and constant involvement in both defence and attack. It was the type of display that reflects the team’s development week on week.

The match was played in a positive, respectful manner befitting the special day — with thanks to all the parents, especially the mums, for their support behind the scenes.  It was aproud day for the team and a great example of grassroots football at its best.

FJSC Under 7 Whites started well against Southport Athletic Blacks. There were lots of chances and it didn’t take long before Edison Foy  scored with a shot from outside the box which caught Southport Athletic defence off guard. With his usual determination McEddyOsei Assibey worked hard closing down theSouthport Athletic players and not giving them time to get going. Throughout the game Shayan Palin took control of the ball and with skill took Formby up the pitch leading to another goal from Edison Foy.

In the second half Kayden Dowdall was busyin goal making a number of confident saves.  William Laugley was given a change of role from defence to midfield and made the most of this opportunity to score a well taken goal from outside the box. After being unlucky with several chances McEddy Osei Assibeyfinally found the back of the net after surging forward on the break.
