Remembering Anita Houghton, A Much Loved Mum, Grandma and Former Owner of Kirkland Road Nursery in Formby

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Anita Houghton, a much loved member of the Formby community, who passed away on Tuesday 13th October 2026, aged 84.

Anita was a devoted family woman who shared a wonderful life with Derek and was a loving mum to their two sons, Andy and Gary, and a much loved mother in law to Sharon and Cheryl.

She was an adored grandmother to Lloyd and Abi, a proud great grandmother to Taylor, and a cherished nan in law to Abbie and Josh.

Anita was also a beloved sister to David and Robert, as well as a much loved sister in law, auntie and friend.

Many people in Formby will remember Anita through Kirkland Road Nursery, which she owned and ran for many years.

Caring for children was clearly something very close to Anita’s heart. She dedicated so much of her life to the little ones in her care, building lasting relationships not only with the children but also with their parents and families.

Through her nursery, Anita became part of the lives of many local families, and her kindness, dedication and care will be fondly remembered by those who knew her.

Above all, Anita was a woman who loved her family dearly and whose passing leaves a great sadness among those closest to her.

Her funeral service will take place at 12 noon on Monday 26th October 2026 at Thornton Crematorium.
