Redgate Community Primary School launched its highly anticipated ‘Formby History Week’ with an engaging presentation and Q&A session led by John Phillips of the Formby Civic Society. The event was made even more special by the presence of local historian Joan Rimmer, who joined as a distinguished guest.
Pupils and staff alike thoroughly enjoyed exploring the rich heritage of #Formby, with a particular focus on how the town has developed and grown as a community over the years. The session sparked lively discussion and curiosity among the children, who were eager to learn more about their local history.
Later in the day, members of the School Council took a trip to the Formby Heritage Centre, where they enthusiastically delved deeper into the area's fascinating past. Their excitement and interest set a positive tone for the rest of the week’s activities. This was the first visit of many with all classes the Heritage Centre over the coming months.
This was the first of many visits over the coming months for all classes to the Formby Heritage Centre. Throughout the week, the entire school delved into various facets of Formby’s rich local history, using resources created collaboratively by teachers within the Formby Learning in Partnership (FLiP). FLiP is a school improvement network comprising seven primary schools in Formby—Our Lady of Compassion, Woodlands, Freshfield, St Jerome’s, St Luke’s, Redgate, and Trinity St Peter’s—who devised a Key Stage 2 local history scheme, complete with lesson plans, worksheets, and a large-scale timeline project exploring events from prehistoric footprints to the lifeboat station and wartime episodes.
The children, staff, and our special visitors all enjoyed an exciting, informative, and highly engaging week of learning!
