New ‘Formby Eats’ Delivery Platform Set to Challenge National Apps and Put Local Businesses First
A brand new food delivery platform is preparing to launch in Formby, promising to offer residents another way to order their favourite meals while helping independent businesses keep more of their hard-earned income.
Formby Eats is a locally owned online food ordering platform created specifically for Formby and the surrounding area. The new venture is being launched by the team behind Southport Eats, which has spent the past six years building a successful local delivery service supporting hundreds of independent food businesses.
Rather than competing on a national scale, Formby Eats says its focus is entirely local, with the aim of helping cafés, restaurants, takeaways and dessert shops across Formby thrive while keeping more money circulating within the community.
The company says one of the biggest challenges facing independent food businesses today is the commission charged by some national delivery platforms. According to Formby Eats, some services can charge businesses between 16% and 40% on every order, meaning a significant proportion of the money spent by customers never reaches the local business.
Instead, Formby Eats says it has adopted a “fair trade” approach, offering lower commission rates, no expensive upfront set-up fees and industry-leading ordering technology designed to make the experience straightforward for both businesses and customers.
The company believes that by reducing the costs faced by local food businesses, owners will be able to retain more of their profits while remaining competitive in an increasingly challenging marketplace.
But the company says its ambitions go beyond food deliveries.
Formby Eats has pledged to reinvest more than half of its profits into promoting local businesses through targeted marketing campaigns, while also supporting community initiatives, grassroots sports clubs, dance groups and other local organisations.
It says this community-first approach is designed to ensure that money generated through the platform benefits Formby itself rather than leaving the area.
For customers, the platform promises a number of advantages, including lower delivery charges than many national apps, exclusive discounts, special offers, competitions to win free meals and vouchers, and access to some local food businesses that may not be available on other delivery platforms.
The team also says it wants to build a platform shaped by local people and is encouraging residents to suggest businesses they would like to see join, as well as sharing ideas that could help improve the service once it launches.
Ahead of the official launch, Formby Eats is now inviting cafés, restaurants, takeaways, dessert shops and other food businesses to become founding partners.
The company says joining businesses will benefit from lower commission rates, fair refund policies, UK-based customer support available around the clock and increased local advertising, with a significant proportion of profits being reinvested into promoting partner businesses.
Although an official launch date has yet to be announced, the company says the countdown has begun and Formby Eats will be arriving very soon.
If successful, the platform could provide a fresh alternative for both residents and businesses, bringing together many of Formby’s favourite food outlets under one locally owned delivery service while supporting the wider community at the same time.
