Liverpool Road Roadworks Extended Until 21st November and will include installation of permanent traffic lights.

Drivers travelling in and out of Formby along Liverpool Road are being advised that the ongoing roadworks at the Grange/Pinewood Park development have now been extended until Thursday 21st November 2025.
The works, which began on 26th August, form part of Section 278 highway improvement works linked to the new Morris Homes development at The Grange, Pinewood Park. Originally due to finish on 14th November, the project has been extended to allow completion of key infrastructure works, including the installation of new permanent traffic signals.

What’s Changing
The installation of signalised traffic lights at the new junction will help to manage traffic flow and improve safety for residents exiting the new estate onto Liverpool Road. Once complete, the junction will provide better access and safer turning movements in and out of the development.
Summary of Works
Construction of a new signalised junction
New bus stop facilities
Upgraded footways and pedestrian walkways
Traffic islands and resurfacing over a 300m stretch
Hedgerow removal and landscaping improvements
Temporary multi-way traffic lights remain in operation and are manned daily from 7am to 7pm, seven days a week.
Ongoing Delays
The temporary signals have caused significant congestion at peak times, with long delays for drivers travelling both into Formby and towards the bypass. Residents are advised to allow extra travel time and, where possible, to use alternative routes during busy periods.
Sefton Council is overseeing the works, which are now expected to be completed by 21st November, weather permitting.
Formby Bubble will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
