Tonight (Saturday 3rd January) the first full Moon of 2026 will rise over Formby — and it’s a special one.
This is a Supermoon, which means the Moon is closer to Earth than usual, making it appear bigger, brighter and more magical in the night sky. It’s also known as the Wolf Moon, a traditional winter name linked to the long, cold nights of January.
Because the Moon is at its closest point to Earth (called perigee), it can look up to 14% larger and around 30% brighter than a normal full Moon.
