It was back to a full programme of football at Formby Junior Sports Club on a very cold, wet and windy weekend.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 14 Whites had a really close game with Crosby Stuart Youth and put in a strong performance. The depleted squad due to the Everton lunchtime Cup tie played well from start to finish and a goal each from Ben Gregory and Will Rawsthorne helped the team to a well- deserved 2-2 draw. Special mention to Patrick Bodziany who volunteered to go in goal for the match and did well. See photo above.
FJSC Under 13 Blacks Saturday team looked to bounce back after a tough result just before Christmas. Coming back into the New Year and taking this is as a new season with a refreshed attitude certainly helped FJSC as the team settled into their normal football passing rhythm.
It only took ten minutes for FJSC to gain control in the game against Marina Sands when they took the lead as the team built on a solid defensive performance. FJSC pushed themselves hard in the first half and went in with a solid 6 nil lead. The team talk at halftime was all about not letting standards slip in the second half and the team certainly lived up to that as they went on the attack again while keeping a solid formation shape to secure the clean sheet. The game finished 10-0 but what was more pleasing was the team performance. Caden Walker and Charlie Richardson both scored hat tricks. Seb Goatley added a brace and there was one goal each for Louis Evans and Josh Burr.
FJSC Under 13 Whites travelled to BankfieldLane to play Southport Hesketh for the first game of 2026. In muddy and blustery conditions both teams struggled to generate too many chances in the first half. Southport Hesketh looking the most likely to score through some excellent corners. FJSC battled hard and defended very well.
The second half saw Southport Hesketh have the wind advantage and they continued to pile on the pressure. Formby held strong but eventually a penalty decision went Southport Hesketh’s way and they took the lead. The Whites did generate one more chance right at the end of the game but couldn’t quite convert. There were some excellent performances at the back in particular from Man of the Match Jack Curtis, who was exceptional at left back.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks Saturday team won 2-1 against FCN Panthers to move into third position in the league. Leo Judge headed in from a Finn McDerby corner and Tom Murphy scored from a Michael Wain through ball. It was the team’s third win in succession. Man of the Match was Michael Wain.
FJSC Under 12 Whites Saturday team narrowly lost 2-1 to league leaders Muniflex.
FJSC Under 12 Reds played league leaders Ormskirk West End Blues in unfavourable weather. The Reds started well but it was Ormskirk who took the lead after some hesitancy in the FJSC defence. A quick counter attack saw Izakk Hill work his way into the box only to be brought down for a penalty which was smashed home by James Hannan. As the first half wore on Ormskirk’squality showed and constant pressure on the Reds goal forced some good saves from Brett McKeown and last ditch tackling from Mason Todd and Max Fairhurst. It was too much and West End took the lead with a long distance chip after Brett McKeown had cleared his lines. Heads dropped and very quickly FJSCfound themselves 4-1 down at half time.
The second half saw a more resilient performance from the boys and they had a few good chances but a combination of tired legs and poor weather took its toll. OWE finished the game off with a few more well taken goals. Man of the Match was Lucas Firth who didn’t stop running or tackling throughout the whole game.
FJSC Under 11 Black opened their new year fixture against a strong Southport Trinity Black side. The previous meeting had been a very close game.
In very cold and damp conditions Trinity started the stronger and took an early lead. This loss of a goal stirred Formby into action and they started to move through the gears and win their individual battles across the pitch. FJSC were rewarded for their hard work and passing when Jack Hansen’s pinpoint cross was expertly headed home by Ashley Jones. Jack Hansen then swiftly got on the score sheet himself following a great through ball from Idris Jones to go into half time 2-1 up.
In the second half Formby continued with their balance of excellent defending and ruthless forward play with Noah Underwood and Adam Tyler-Holland both going close. Ashley Jones then capitalised on a high press to score his second goal before Jack Hansen provided a low cross on the counter attack for Ashley Jones to complete his hat trick.
It was a fantastic all round performance and every team member contributed to get the comeback win that their effort deserved. Ashley Jones took home the Man of the Match trophy. The win sees the Blackscontinue their excellent 100% record for the season.
FJSC Under 11 Gold were in action against Southport Athletic. During the latter stages of the first half FJSC had their opponents pinned back for long periods but just couldn’t score, even hitting the crossbar and coming close on a number of other occasions.
The Gold team could not keep up this tremendous effort in the second half as they had no substitutes whereas Athletic had a lot more players to bring on as the two teams began to tire. The Gold team kept going and could have scored a couple goals with a bit more luck. It was a really resilient performance once again from the team in tough conditions.
FJSC Under 10 Whites played Southport FC Community Yellows and started really well with some great passing. The Whites had a few good shots but unfortunately before half time conceded three goals. Again at the start of the second half the Whites started well and following a great long distance shot by JoshuaGillespie which hit the Southport crossbar the ball rebounded out to Elliott Dyment who took his chance and scored. Lifted by this FJSCwent straight back on the attack. A wonderful pass from Eric Williams found Elliott Dymentwho scored his second goal of the match. There was some great defending by TheoCavanagh and Austin Faraday at the back as both teams attacked with every opportunity. Trailing by just one goal it was a thrilling last ten minutes but the opposition scored two late goals to stay ahead to the final whistle. The Whites came so close and all the boys gave it their all throughout the game and were very unfortunate not to come away with a draw or even a win.
FJSC Under 10 Blacks returned from the Christmas and New Year break hoping to hit the ground running, but quickly found themselves up against it facing a sharp Redgate Rovers U10 Green side.
From the first whistle Redgate set the tone, pressing high and keeping FJSC pinned back. The conditions made it a tough day for flowing football, and with FJSC struggling to settle, Redgate capitalised to take a deserved 3-0 lead into half time.
To their credit, FJSC showed more intent after the break and created a couple of clearer openings, but the finishing touch just wouldn’t come. Redgate remained organised, kept the pressure on, and added three more second-half goals.
FJSC Under 9 Whites got off to a great start in their match with Redgate Rovers Green by racing into a four goal lead in the first fifteen minutes all scored by Henry Ade. Redgate came back strongly and by half time had halved the deficit. FJSC’s Joseph Morgan scored a superb fifth goal after the break which was followed by a hat trick from Archie Jones. The Man of the Match award was shared by Henry Ade and Thomas North.
FJSC Under 9 Blacks travelled to Churchtown Athletic for the first game of the new year. The match was a fast-paced affair, with both teams giving it their all until Ted Middleton broke the deadlock and gave the Blacks the lead. Undeterred, Churchtown launched an attack to equalise, but the Blacks kept pushing forward and were rewarded with another goal before half-time.
With the wind now in their favour, the boys came out strong, passing the ball well and finding Ted Middleton again, who slotted it home neatly. The Blacks continued to press, and Sam O’Brien also found the back of the net, giving them a comfortable lead. In the final minutes, Churchtown was awarded a penalty, but Harley Rae couldn’t quite get his hands on it. The Blacks dug deep and held their lead until the end. Sam O’Brien was named Man of the Match. Overall, it was a great team performance from all the boys, and they certainly shook off the Christmas cobwebs.
FJSC Under 9 Reds started their 2026 fixture list on a cold and windy day at Deansgate Lane. The first half was an even contest with chances at both ends. Goalkeeper Finley Constable provided a safe pair of hands throughout the first half. The second half continued in the same vein although Southport and Ainsdale showed a greater ruthlessness in front of goal during the half to score a few goals. The highlight of the half was a superb penalty save from Milo House.
Man of the match was Lucas Kelly.
FJSC Under 8 Whites Saturday team have started to gel together as a new team in recent weeks. It was a good team performance against Kingswood Yellows. From the start the Whites passing and moving was very impressive. One of the highlights was a Cormac Nice goal scored with lovely free kick in the top corner from the half way line. Special mention to goalkeeper Albee Fairhurst who made some great saves to keep the game comfortable.
Harry Brown and Cormac Nice scored two goals each and Oli Jones also scored. The Coaches Man of the Match was Cormac Nice. Captain for the day and Parents Man of the Match was Harry Brown. The Whites have now won three matches out of the last four played.
FJSC Under 7’s whites fought bravely on one of the coldest days of the season so far against Crosby Stuart. Crosby started the scoring after FJSC failed to clear their lines. McEddy Osei Assibey battled well to level the scores.Crosby scored two more goals but FJSC held their nerve and with two excellent breakaway goals, the second slotted home with great skillby Kayden Dowdell helped to level the game at half time.
During his time on the pitch Edison Foy showed his usual tenacity tackling well and driving forward. Crosby Stuart went on a roll and scored four without reply but to their credit Formby Whites got their heads down with two goals from Toby Woodcock and a hat trick goal from Kayden Dowdell. There was a couple of chances to level the scores at the end but Crosby hung on for deserved win. The coaches and parents were very proud of theteam of troopers who fought till the final whistle.
