Goals Galore and Fun All Round for Formby Junior Sports Club
It was a very busy weekend for all Formby Junior Sports Club’s team with goals galore, exciting matches and above all lots of fun.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 15 Black went a goal down to Fleetwood Hesketh after sixteen minutes in the Sunday home match in the West Lancashire JFL. Zak Healy opened the scoringfor FJSC on 21 minutes with a calmly slotted goal after a through ball from Will Madutlela. Ben Harris quickly followed up with a second goal a minute later latching on to a Joe Tuckerthrough ball. A quick throw in from ThomasRobertson on fifty minutes and a lovely cross from Fabian Reilly saw Lucas Lewis knee-volley home for a 3-1 lead. Then chance after chance for FJSC was finally rewarded after a quick free kick which led to WilliamMadutlela crossing to Seb Burdett-Clarke, who completed FJSC’s scoring in the 62nd minute for a 4-2 victory. The team played well but the finishing needs to be much better. Elliot Dixon was the stand-out player and was Man of the Match.
FJSC Under 15 Blacks played AFC Maghullin the Liverpool Premier League. Despite being the better team in the first half it took a Ben Harris goal to level the score. Maghull took a 3-1 lead in the second half before Fabian Reilly scored a poacher’s goal to reduce the deficit to one goal. Unfortunately the team failed to keep up the momentum and conceded again and lost 4-2. A change of formation in the last few minutes nearly pulled the game around but time ran out. Man of the Match was Joe Tucker.
FJSC Under 15 White lost 1 nil to Formby Community FC Orange in a very close encounter in the Craven Minor League Premier Division. See squad photo above.
FJSC Under 14 Black Saturday teamcontinued their Hightown League season with an 8-5 win over Northfield FC. In torrential rain and wind it made it very difficult to play football and the first half ended 3-3 as FJSC tried to keep the ball on the ground. In the second half with the wind behind them playing football became a lot easier and FJSC soon pulled away from Northfield to take an8-2 lead. Three late goals from Northfield made the end result look a lot closer than itactually was. FJSC had five different scorers. Isaac Jones scored a hat trick, Finley Scott added a brace and there was one goal each for Caden Walker, Louis Evans and Sylvan O’Hara.
Unfortunately a tough game for FJSC Under 14 Blacks on Sunday against a very well drilled Burscough FC ended with a 4-1 defeat. After a disappointing first half where FJSC struggled to get their foot on the ball the team went into half time 1-0 down despite creating four clear cut chances. With a change of formation and positions at half time, FJSC came out much stronger in the second half and soon equalised. FJSC started to play with much better desire and communication but couldn’t find the second goal. However, threegood counter attacks by Burscough saw FJSC lose 4-1.
FJSC Under 13 Whites Sunday teammaintained their unbeaten start to the West Lancashire League with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Parklands FC at Ormskirk School. Having beaten the same opposition 3-1 just seven days earlier, the lads were made to work much harder this time in a tight, physical contest.
The first half was end-to-end, with Diego Funes-Cervera and Paddy O'Callaghan working tirelessly in attack, supported by Zac McHugh and Huey Stevenson, while FinnbarCoss and Callum Mannix battled for everything in midfield. At the other end, Kayden Watters, Lucas Glennon and Brody Davidson were outstanding defensively, with Kaspa Bailey continuing his excellent form in goal and producing several important saves to send the teams into half-time at 0-0.
The breakthrough came almost immediately after the restart.
Following some excellent pressing from Formby, the ball dropped to Kayden Watters around the centre circle. Kayden sent it towards goal from inside his own half, with the ball travelling over the defence, bouncing beyond the advancing goalkeeper and finding the net.
FJSC then had to dig deep defensively. Brody Davidson was superb at the heart of it, repeatedly breaking up attacks while also driving forward down the wing and helping turn defence into attack.
Josh Halpin also deserves a special mention after a remarkable weekend which saw him play in just about every position available across Formby's Saturday and Sunday teams!
Parklands eventually equalised from a corner in the 56th minute, making it 1-1 with only four minutes remaining. But the lads' response was immediate. Finnbar Coss drove into the penalty area and was adjudged to have been fouled, giving Formby the chance to regain the lead. After a lengthy delay, Callum Mannix stepped up and showed absolutely no nerves, emphatically firing the penalty home to make it 2-1. FJSC then stood firm through stoppage time to secure another hard-earned victory. Player of the Match was Brody Davidson.
FJSC Under 13 Blacks Saturday team started off strong against Forefield White with some solid defending from Leo Ball, Leo Judge and Ben Robertson. Joseph Kenyon and Albie Graham were solid breaking up the play in centre midfield and working the ball up to Oliver Hall-Gleeson, Finn McDerby and Quinn McAuley. Finn McDerby latched onto an inch perfect corner from Oliver Hall-Gleeson to put the Blacks ahead. Soon after Quinn McAuley grabbed the second from a Leo Ball throw-in. Harley Evans showed his composure and strength at the back and Thomas Buchan and Isaac Ignatowicz showed their strength and vision in midfield and on the wings.
The third goal soon followed when QuinnMcAuley played a ball across the box to FinnMcDerby to slot home. Finn soon returned the favour with a measured pass through the middle for Quinn to slide past the Forefield keeper. Throughout the game the Forefield keeper made at least six great saves in the first half to keep the score down.
Forefield came out stronger in the second half and grabbed a couple of quick goals and then a third later in the half. Two absolute inch perfect free kicks brought Forefield back within a goal of the Blacks and some top saves from both Fin Towler and the Forefield keeper were some of the highlights of the half. It was getting a little close for comfort and Forefield could have drawn level. However a Leo Ball finish from a corner from Isaac Ignatowiczensured the Blacks went home with a 6-4 winand their second three points in the first two games of the season.
FJSC Under 13 Whites Saturday team played Kingsway. The Whites took the lead in the tenth minute. It was a brilliant team goal. Callum Mannix won possession in the centre circle and released Diego Funes-Cervera down the right. After a mazy dribble by Diego the ball was squared to Callum who calmly side footed home to make it 1 nil. Huey Stevenson came close to doubling the lead before Kingsway drew level just before half time. The score remained the same until the last minute when Kingway scored the winner with virtually the last kick of the match. Football can be cruel. There were some excellent performances from Hugo Thomas, Kayden Watters and Josh Halpin but the Man of the Match went to the outstanding Reuben Hunt.
FJSC Under 13 Gold very narrowly won 2-1 against the new FJSC Under 13 Green team in Division 1.
FJSC Under 12 Black put in an excellent performance in a closely fought encounter against Rainhill Rockets U12 Bayern. From the opening whistle, Formby took the game to their opponents and had opportunities while restricting Rainhill to very little, but against the run of play it was Rainhill who took the lead when a corner was flicked on at the near post and turned home, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage at the break.
Rainhill started the second half strongly hitting the crossbar. However, Formby responded superbly, increasing the pressure and creating a number of chances as they searched for an equaliser. Their persistence finally paid off when Josh Robinson produced an excellent piece of forward play, looping a half-volley from the edge of the box onto the underside of the bar, with Ash Jones quickest to react and tuck away the rebound for the equaliser. The score remained 1-1 until the final whistle. Player of the Match was Noah Underwood.
FJSC Under 10 Blacks found themselves playing a well organised Redgate Rover Greens. Both teams started strong with plenty of pressure from the Blacks. However it was Redgate who went two goals up in the first half. FJSC tried hard but Redgate added to their tally in the second half. FJS’s Players of the Match were Isaac Murphy and Ted Middleton.
FJSC Under 10 Reds played Southport Athletic Orange in their first match of the season. The Reds started well and scored twice in the first half with a goal each from Isaac Kamel and Finley Constable. Ray
Burnett impressed in midfield which led to further goals in the second half including goals from Lucas Kelly and Kristian Tyacke. It was a good team display.
FJSC Under 10 Whites hit top form in their encounter with Hesketh Bank. Harry Brown scored a hat trick and there was one goal each for Corey Flynn, Tom Babun, James Witterickand Man of the Match Jimmy Duckworth. Goalkeeper Rex Friday was in fine form also.
FJSC Under 10 Gold in only their second ever match were involved in a thirteen goal thriller with Churchtown Jaguars. Churchtown started the game with a flurry and FJSC found themselves 4 nil down in the first ten minutes. After some fine saves from Ronnie Dempsey the Gold team gained in confidence and theboys started to play their usual football. PercyBanister who was excellent in midfield again broke down the Churchtown attacks and played the ball forward which lead to AlbieThornberry scoring before half time. The Gold team came out in the second half with a strong intention with Ronnie Dempsey finding the top corner followed by another goal by Albie Thornberry and one from Cody Fry as well. Ronnie Dempsey scored again from a corner and Albie Thornberry with a battling finish, set up an exciting finale. Churchtown stepped up to secure their victory at the end but there are significant signs of improvementin the Gold team who are developing a good team spirit.
With a depleted squad FJSC Under 8 Whites took on a strong Southport Athletic team.Michael Woolvine and Teddy Gillingham both showed great determination to win the ball back on several occasions. In an even game FJSC eventually went behind following a goal line scramble from a Southport corner. Not long after Formby got a goal back with Shayan Palin battling to get the ball over the line. FJSC were kept in the game on many occasions by Toby Woodcock who was active in commanding his area in goal and deservedthe Man of the Match for his hard work. Southport eventually regained the lead through an excellent goal from a well worked cross and finish. With some tired legs both Albie Yorke and Kayden Dowdell kept on working but couldn’t stop a third Southport goal.
FJSC Under 8 Blacks played a competitive match for the very first time. Their opponents Southport FC Community took an early lead but the Blacks fought back with Jack Vine equalising. FJSC gradually grew into the contest and Frankie Williamson found the top corner with a fantastic strike. Southport also added goals. Luca Ellis- Williams scored FJSC’s third goal with a curling free-kick. Frankie Williamson then added another goal. A late surge from Southport increased the lead but it was a wonderful effort by FJSC’s very new team. Man of the Match was Frankie Williamson.
FJSC Under 8 Gold enjoyed a very excitingmatch away at Crosby Stuart. The team of five boys with no substitutes availableproduced a fantastic effort throughout the match. They missed a few chances but George Leggett’s hat trick proved just enough. Congratulations also to Rory Dunn, Noah Kamel, Damon McKay and Will Osborne for a great effort from start to finish.
FJSC Under 8 Silver team lost by the narrowest of margins but were superb! 0-0 going into half time to then end up 4 goalsdown after 10 minutes of the restart. The lads showed great determination to get back into the game but just ran out of time. JamesCurran scored two goals and really asserted his authority. Gabe Zertal at the heart of thedefence was rock solid, a scorer and was Player of the Match. Well done also to Roman Crowney, Ezekiel Fitzgibbon, Ezra Hodgson, Billy Lynch, Jude Lloyd and Michael Shortwho also played very well.
INTER CLUB SECTION
Torrential rain at exactly 9.30am did nothing to put off the first session starters last Saturday which just shows how keen this season’s Inter Club footballers are. The Reception and Year Ones groups continue to increase in number but the surprise age group so far this season isthe fast growing Year Three age group.
Scoring goals last Saturday included Hudson Kenny, James McManus, Louie Winsor, Charlie Barnes , Anders Carter, Zander Melling, Ted Middleton, Owen Harris, Ezekiel Fitzgibbon, Gabriel Doran, William Gregory, Zac Hooson-Jones, Chase Lowen, Archie Marron, Albie Hartley and Joseph Edwards.

All group sessions will comprise of coaching followed by a fun match. There is a £3 charge each Saturday for coaching. Please arrive ten minutes before start time and give your name in for the register.
