Frank's Report From Formby Junior Sports Club

Formby Junior Sports Club’s 62nd football season finished at the weekend. It has been a very challenging time but the start stop start season which lasted ten months has been very successful and enjoyable. Only three Representative teams played at the weekend as most teams had finished their fixtures during the previous couple of weeks. However all the Inter Club age groups were in action on the final Saturday and once again all the boys played and trained with an abundance of skill and enthusiasm.

FJSC Under 10 Blacks had a tough away match at TQ Academy Barca to end the season. The match was played on an astro turf pitch in Burscough. FJSC adapted very well to the playing surface and controlled the game from the start. Patrick Fleming had another commanding game in goal, while at the other end Lewis Donoghue and Abe Rice were a constant threat in attack. After several close attempts it was Lewis Donoghue who opened the scoring with a long-range effort from out by the far touchline. FJSC continued to create several chances as Ollie Dean and Thomas Donnelly probed from midfield but there were no further goals in the first half.

The second half continued in the same manner and Lewis Donoghue added another goal from close range. Ethan Richmond had a couple of shots that went narrowly wide whilst Charlie Knowles, Sam Uttley and Robert Gorman all looked very assured in defence. There was a joint player of the match award this week which went to Lewis Donohue and Abe Rice.

FJSC Under 11 Saturday completed their Hightown League fixtures with a fixture against Town Green. Luca Massey gave FJSC the lead but Town Green levelled the score by half time and went into the lead after the break with three goals. The Under 11’s scored a late goal but it proved to be a little too late.

FJSC Under 8’s played away at Hesketh Colts. It proved to be a very exciting match with a last minute winner. Hesketh Colts scored early on but FJSC battled back really well and Harrison Taylor equalised before half time. It was end to end in the second half. Harrison Taylor netted again and then Gregory Houghton scored his first goal of the season . With Hesketh Colts also adding two goals to their tally the match went into the final minute all square. With seconds remaining Isaac Burgess scored a fantastic goal to see FJSC Under 8’s finish the season in grand style. There were some excellent performances from Ephraim Sutton and Joshua Davidson who shared the goalkeeping and also from Gregory Houghton. Man of the match was Isaac Burgess in his final game for the club.

INTER CLUB FOOTBALL

The extended season has proved to be very popular with many new boys joining the club. The coaching has been very good. The

standard of the matches has shown continual improvement. More importantly the boys have enjoyed their Saturday morning football, had fun and have made a host of new friends.
