Frank’s Report from Formby Junior Sports Club

There has been no doubt that the extended football season has been very popular with the boys in Formby Junior Sports Club’s Inter Club Section and the FJSC Representative teams as well. The good news for the Inter Club members is that we still have four more Saturdays left and for most of the Representative teams there are a number of fixtures arranged between now and the last weekend of June.

For one FJSC team however, it was the last match of the season on Sunday. FJSC Under 10 Black had an action packed match against Southport FC Gold which was played in glorious sunshine at Deansgate Lane. FJSC started very strongly scoring two early goals as Ollie Dean ran down the right wing on both occasions and crossed for Lewis Donoghue to score twice from close range. Thomas Donnelly quickly added a third with a clever finish, before Southport pulled one back with a goal on the break. Lewis Donoghue then completed his first half hat trick after receiving a good through ball from Ollie Dean and running clear of the defence from the halfway line and scoring past the advancing Southport goalkeeper. There was still time for Southport to fight back and FJSC’s Robert Gorman made some good saves but could do nothing to stop Southport scoring two further goals just before half time.

The second half continued in the same way and as FJSC pushed forward. Lewis Donnelly was fouled in the box and the resulting penalty was confidently converted by Thomas Donnelly. Ollie Dean then scored with a fierce drive from just outside the goal area. There was still time for two more goals. Southport scored one more themselves before Ethan Richmond finished off the scoring for FJSC Under 10 Blacks as he drove forward into the box and scored with a low shot.

It was an excellent team performance and a good end to the season, celebrated with ice creams all round!

The team has improved each week and all the hard work in midweek training, the boys’ regular attendance at Inter Club where they have received excellent coaching followed by the opportunity to play friendly games and experiment with new skills learnt has certainly paid off. It was a great way to finish the season with three straight wins. Congratulations to all the Under 10 Blacks squad and a big thank you to the management team of Matt Dean and Andy Donnelly for all their efforts.

FJSC Under 11’s Sunday team had a very exciting 9 aside match with Town Green. Playing at the hottest time of the day the Under 11’s due to holidays had only eight available players. Freddie Garvey with a hamstring problem and a Town Green player also came off. The boys of both teams played remarkably well throughout in 24C heat. It turned out to be a nine goal thriller with FJSC edging the game by one goal. Dominic Maxwell scored four goals and man of the match Callum Gray capped a great performance with a goal as well.

FJSC Under 7 Whites played Redgate Rovers. The Whites pass the ball well and created many goal scoring opportunities. Mason Stringer, Diego Funes-Cervera, Joshua Halpin and Josh Tallon were all scorers for FJSC.
