Frank’s Report from Formby Junior Sports Club
Formby Junior Sports Club Under 10 Black who have been improving each week produced their best performance of the season so far. However before the match against Burscough Green there was a minute’s silence in memory of Jordan Banks from Blackpool who recently died after being struck by lightning. See photograph above.
Both teams started the first half well with some confident play and touches in particular from James Potts. FJSC took the lead with a shot from Lewis Donoghue that took a deflection and looped up over the Burscough goalkeeper. The remainder of the first half was very evenly contested, but with the last kick of the half, Burscough broke forward and scored an equaliser.
FJSC started the second half very strongly and Ethan Richmond gave his team the lead once again by finishing off a flowing move. More Formby goals followed. Ollie Dean scored with a stunning long range free kick. Ethan Richmond then scored his second of the game after scoring at the back post from a corner swung in by Thomas Donnelly. This was quickly followed by an unlucky own goal by Burscough following another Thomas Donnelly corner. FJSC Black continued to put the pressure on and completed the scoring towards the end with another well taken goal by Lewis Donoghue. Man of the match was James Potts for his confident display and clever passes.
FJSC Under 16’s played Rufford and Holmeswood. It was another game that the FJSC players can be proud of their performance but the team are just struggling to finish off chances in front of goal. There was some very good passing on display and it was one of the team’s best performances for quite some time. Rufford were more clinical and took their chances and went on to win 2 nil. Rylie Read was man of match with a very good display at centre back. Joe Nel also had a very good match and Jacob Duckworth had his best match in a FJSC shirt at right back.
FJSC Under 15’s was in action against Redgate Rovers in a local derby. It was a highly entertaining but goalless end to end match. There was some excellent defending by Jack Rummens and Callum Williams. Samuel Colbourne and Steven Mordaunt shared the man of the match award for their brilliant work ethic and tireless displays.
There was another minute’s silence for Jordan from Blackpool before FJSC’s Under 11’s midweek match with Southport Athletic. The Under 11’s started the game very well and soon scored some early goals. Southport Athletic tried very hard throughout the match but FJSC added more goals in a good team display. On the scoresheet for FJSC were Dominic Maxwell, Max Ryan, Archie Ogden, Charlie Garvey, Freddie Garvey and James Cook. Man of the match was Franky Moon.
FJSC Under 8s started slowly in the match with Southport FC, giving away a couple of early goals, before pulling a goal back through Isaac Burgess. Southport scored two quick goals just before half time to take a healthy lead. FJSC started the second half well with two quick goals from Harry McKenna and Zac Hooson-Jones. A late flourish from Southport sealed victory but it was a great game played in a good spirit.
FJSC Under 7 Whites played Southport Trinity. It was one of the best performances of the season. Scoring for FJSC were Diego Funes-Cervera, Mason Stringer, Jaiden Crosby, and Josh Tallon.
FJSC Under 7 Black played very well in their away fixture at Southport FC. It was a great game with a hard fought performance by all the boys. Joseph Kenyon was in fine form scoring FJSC’s goals. Goalkeeper Harrison Hughes made a string of excellent saves. Will Roberts and Rory Rankine worked tirelessly. In the second half Finn McDerby, Ryan Lamb, Huey Stevenson and Oliver Hall-Gleeson kept the Southport forwards at bay. The man of the match award was given to Oliver Hall-Gleeson who was involved in play all over the pitch with tackles and playmaking.

NEW TEAMS FOR NEXT SEASON
In addition to this season’s Representative teams it is hoped to have some new teams from September to enter the Craven Minor League. We need to send in the club’s intentions to the league within the next two weeks so therefore FJSC needs to know whether there is enough interest for these proposed new teams.
Two new teams will be for present Year One’s (Year 2 in September). Another team for present Year Two’s (Year 3 in September) and also an additional team for present Year Three’s (Year 4 in September).
There are also additional places for boys presently in Year Five for next season’s Under 11 Whites (Year 6 in September).
Parents of boys who are interested in being in these new teams are asked to inform Frank Rourke of their son’s interest by email to stellathecat4@gmail.com. as soon as possible.
Volunteers to manage or assist with running these teams is also needed so parents are asked to also let the club know if they are interested in helping. Without volunteers these proposed teams will not be able to go ahead.
