Frank’s Report from Formby Junior Sports Club

After five weekends of sunny weather since Formby Junior Sports Club’s resumed football, torrential rain meant that Inter Club football had to be cancelled last Saturday. FJSC’s Under 16’s and Under 17’s matches went ahead and the boys can be proud of the way they played in awful conditions. Luckily it was different on Sunday as dry weather allowed matches to be played and it was a day when FJSC’s two youngest teams produced excellent team displays.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

On Saturday FJSC Under 16’s played away at Southport Athletic. Despite a very good effort with a weakened team due to illness and injuries the Under 16’s lost 2 nil. Man of the match was Luke Phillips who played well throughout in an unfamiliar left back position.

FJSC Under 15’s lost 2 nil to second in the Premier League Ormskirk Galaxy. The Under 15 boys have played some fantastic football for the past four weeks, passing the ball well and it was no different in this encounter. Steven Mordaunt had another good match in the centre of midfield battling to win possession and creating chances. Man of the match for making some brilliant saves was goalkeeper Rhys Hack.

FJSC Under 11’s entertained a very well organised and good Southport and Birkdale team on Sunday. Southport scored the only goal of the first half and added three further goals, all scored from corners, after the interval. Man of the match for FJSC was Callum Gray. It was the first time that the Under 11’s have lost this season.

FJSC Under 10 Whites played away at Southport Trinity. Thomas Szabo hit the post twice in the first half. FJSC’S goalkeeper Adam Jackson made some outstanding saves as did the Southport Trinity keeper in an action packed match. Eventually Trinity took the lead from a deflected shot and added a second late on. The Under 10’s played well and were a little unlucky on the day.

FJSC Under 7 Whites opened the scoring against Crosby Stuart with a well-worked team goal. Joshua Halpin found Diego Funes-Cervera with a very accurate pass. The ball was then crossed for Josh Tallon to lift the ball over the goalkeeper’s head for a very good goal. Crosby Stuart equalised before Diego Funes- Cervera scored his first of six goals. Thomas Crutchley completed the scoring. Mason Stringer made some great saves in goal. Clayton Gilbertson and man of the match Jaiden Crosby defended very well.

FJSC Under 7’ Blacks had a thrilling away game at Churchtown Athletic. Churchtown lead by one goal at half time after Joseph Kenyon had pulled a goal back for the Blacks. With no substitutes available FJSC Blacks played superbly well in the second half. Harrison Hughes made some wonderful saves in goal. Finn McDerby tackled very well in defence. Oliver Hall-Gleeson linked up play between defence and midfield and through to strikers Rory Rankine and Joseph Kenyon. The pressure mounted on the Chuchtown defence and Joseph Kenyon changed the outcome of the match with three more excellently taken goals. It was a very good team display by FJSC Blacks.

NEW TEAMS- information urgently needed

In addition to this season’s Representative teams it is hoped to have some new teams from September to enter the Craven Minor League. We need to send in the club’s intentions to the league within the next two weeks so therefore FJSC needs to know whether there is enough interest for these proposed new teams.

Two new teams will be for present Year One’s (Year 2 in September). Another team for present Year Two’s (Year 3 in September) and also an additional team for present Year Three’s (Year 4 in September). Parents of boys who are interested in being in these new teams are asked to inform Frank Rourke of their son’s interest by email to stellathecat4@gmail.com. as soon as possible.

Volunteers to manage or assist with running these teams is also needed so parents are asked to also let the club know if they are interested in helping. Without volunteers these proposed teams will not be able to go ahead. For more information about these teams’ parents are reminded to read a recent email sent from the club in the last week of April.
