Formby Man Brings Extraordinary New Immersive Experience to Liverpool’s Iconic St George’s Hall

A lifelong Formby resident is preparing to bring one of Liverpool’s most ambitious and unique live experiences to one of the city’s most iconic landmarks after spending more than a year turning an idea into reality.

Tony Roberts, 35, who has lived in Formby all his life, is the founder of The Picnic Club, an immersive indoor picnic experience that will transform the historic St George’s Hall into a breathtaking world of music, light, food and atmosphere.

What began as a simple conversation with friends has grown into an extraordinary creative project involving designers, musicians, visual artists and production specialists, all working together to create an evening unlike anything Liverpool has seen before.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the event, Tony said he wanted to create something that offered people more than a typical night out.

“I found myself going out with my girlfriend and friends and feeling like every evening followed the same pattern – dinner, drinks and home. I wanted to create something that felt truly special; an experience people would remember long after they left.”

That vision has now become The Picnic Club, where guests will step into an immersive setting beneath an ever changing digital sky inside the magnificent surroundings of St George’s Hall.

Throughout the evening, visitors will experience dramatic thunderstorms, spectacular golden sunsets, star filled night skies and the magical colours of the Northern Lights, all carefully synchronised with live classical performances, atmospheric lighting and specially curated gourmet picnic baskets.

As the evening progresses, the experience evolves, with the atmosphere seamlessly transitioning into uplifting minimal electronic music, creating a completely different mood as guests continue their journey.

Rather than simply attending a concert or going out for a meal, Tony wanted every guest to become part of the experience itself, with music, visuals, food and the stunning surroundings combining to create an unforgettable evening.

The project has been over a year in the making, with Tony working alongside an experienced team of creatives to carefully develop every element of the event.

For Tony, bringing the experience to Liverpool makes it even more special.

“As someone who’s proud to call Formby home, it means a great deal to bring this experience to our city, and I’m incredibly proud that an idea that started in my imagination is now becoming a reality.”

The Picnic Club will take place at St George’s Hall, Liverpool, across Valentine’s weekend on Saturday 13 February and Sunday 14 February.

There will be two sessions available each day:

• 5pm to 7.30pm

• 8.15pm to 10.45pm

Tickets are now on sale, and with the event offering a completely new style of entertainment for Liverpool, organisers are expecting strong demand.

For Formby residents, it’s also a chance to support one of their own as a local idea takes centre stage at one of the city’s most celebrated venues.

After more than a year of planning, creativity and hard work, Tony’s vision is finally becoming a reality, proving that sometimes the most extraordinary ideas begin with one person simply wanting to create something different.

This is the sort of story we love sharing at Formby Bubble because it’s about local people doing something extraordinary. We wish Tony and everyone involved every success and look forward to seeing this unique experience come to life next February.
