Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 14’s win the Hightown Junior League Spring Championship
Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 14’s saved the best to last by winning the Hightown Junior League Spring Championship.
It was such closely contested competition that there was a three way round robin play off to determine the winning team. In the first match FJSC conceded an early goal against St George’s and it stayed that way until Dylan Madeley equalised with a thunderous shot two minutes from time. The second game saw St George’s in action against Churchtown. Eventually with neither team wanting to lose, St. George’s scored the only goal of the match.
This result meant that FJSC had to win their final match against Churchtown to remain in the competition. FJSC played very well and won 2 nil with a goal each from Berat Ulusoyand Archie Ogden. As a result FJSC and St George’s were tied on four points each. Therefore it was decided that another play off match would need to be played between FJSC and St. George’s last Saturday.
FJSC started the final match with electrifying pace and swept into a 2 nil lead after only eight minutes with goals from Alfie Holden and Archie Ogden. Lucas Bowles who was playing in an unfamiliar centre forward position set up Archie Ogden for his second goal of the match to extend FJSC’s lead after only nineteen minutes to 3 nil.
In the second half James Cook scored FJSC’s fourth goal with an assist from Archie Ogden and to round off a superb team performance Alfie Holden scored again to send the team into raptures with a resounding 5 nil victory to win the league and complete the double having won the cup two weeks ago. Man of the match was Dylan Madeley.
